I want to become a pharmacist, obviously earning my Pharm.D in the future. I am currently a college freshman. Anybody in pharmacy school? Any advice on the programs or future job prospects would be helpful. Also I'm in community college right now. Would getting a job as a pharmacy tech help my chances? And if so how can I become one?

Prepharm is basically a bunch of classes that fulfill the requirements such as general biology, general chemistry, organic chem, anatomy and some gen ed requirements. Just look at the schools you are interested in applying to, look at what courses are required, and be sure to take them. If you are intending to get a major I’d look at biochem. It contains pretty much all the prerequisites for med, pharm, dental, optometry, physcial therapy, though the major is pretty useless by itself without further education.

I believe pharmacy schools require either some sort of shadowing of a pharmacist or work as tech, which is a definite plus.

Pharmacy is still a very good bet job wise. You will start close to $100k and can live nearly anywhere. In the future, though, there are fears of overproduction of pharmacists and increased mail orders reducing demand for pharmacists.
