On the assist website it lists the pre-reqs under the heading "one course from the following". My counselors (who are clueless at times) insist that I take ALL of the classes listed, but I don't want to take another boring history class.

I already took the latter history class BTW. Here is the link on assist:

Also, I already listed the other history course as planned on my TAG application. So my question is do I take it or would I be at a significant disadvantage if I didn't take it?

You should take AS MANY recommended prereqs to your major AS POSSIBLE before transfer. Students who complete most of these are generally looked at as having the ability to graduate within 2 years (which is what is preferable).
TAKE THESE CLASSES @ CC, or you are going to HAVE to take them at UC where they will be ALOT more rigorous.
Additionally, finishing prereqs early allows you to focus on possibly double-majoring or studying abroad w/out concern.

Man, community college counselors are so dumb. Mine got me all confused on my major prerequisites too. I looked at your major on assist. From the looks of it, taking every class listed would be a waste of time because it CLEARLY lists that you take one from each of the sections. Think of it like IGETC. You have to take one physical science, and you get to choose which one you want to take: physics, geography, geology, etc. You don’t have to take them all, obviously.
