Hey guys!
I've been sobbing for the past hour because someone recently told me that I actually needed to complete my pre-reqs by fall and UC was talking about finishing my IGETC by Spring. From what I heard, UCLA in particular is very strict about finishing by the time I apply. I wasn't sure what I wanted to major in until rather recently and hence, I had a late start and was almost done with IGETC. If I still have two classes left (that i can easily fit in my Spring schedule), how much is this going to hurt me? I have all As and am a chemistry major.

@LunaSue

UCLA isn’t as strict as you think about pre-reqs being completed by the end of fall. Having two classes left by the end of spring shouldn’t be a problem unless your major is really impacted, and chemistry is not impacted whatsoever.

Since you say you have all As, I’ll assume that your GPA is 4.0. If so, you are a very strong candidate for admission to UCLA. Personally, I think you’ll get in and you’ve nothing to worry about.

Ditto the master @cayton…

But starting the sobbing early is good as you’ll do a lot of that as you nail bite your way through Jan-April. :-??

@LunaSue

You’ll definitely be stressing out from January to April, whether you’re a strong applicant or not, as @Lindyk8 said. :)

But we’ll be here to help with that!

UCLA does not require anything to be completed by Fall, or end of Fall. Your friend is 100% wrong. You need to get as much of your IGETC done by the end of Spring, same with major prereqs. I have spoken to two counselors about this to verify because that rumor was being spread by, “Ms, Sun” a while back, but she was 100% wrong.

If this was the case, I too would be out. I will have 39 units done by the end of Fall, a mix of IGETC and major prereqs, 62 by the end of Spring.

Thank you so much!!

Take a look at https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/tradms.htm I don’t see anything on that page about completing requirements by fall. Your friend appears mistaken.

As others have posted above your good. You just need to finish by spring. I finished both my pre recs and IGETC In the spring and was fine

I had the same concern or well for that matter I “still” do, I won’t be applying this November but the next. I’ll only be needing to complete one major course which would be diff. equations. Does anybody know how strict Berkeley is? I’ll be applying next November to EECS in CoE. I’ll have everything else done including some “strongly recommended courses” (according to assist). If it matters I’m also in the TAP program. Any thoughts?

Try to get that diff. equations class done by the end of Fall since Berkeley’s EECS program is extremely competitive and may favor applicants who finish pre-reqs by the end of the fall in which they apply.

Being in Berkeley’s TAP program seems to help a lot. About 80% get in to Berkeley from there. Good luck!

@Cayton Will definitely try! Maybe summer? Hopefully they don’t do a 5 week session like they did this past summer. But yeah thats’ what i’ve heard! I’ve even heard students getting into HAAS even with sub par stats get in so that in itself is amazing. Thanks Cayton! appreciate the advice!

No problem and good luck, @Zygole.
