Pre-req's

Hi
I'm currently a junior at a university taking classes as a transient at a state college.
This semester I want to take Chem II, Orgo I, Phys w/ calc I (all at the state college).
Is it possible? I have a 3.9 GPA and don't want to hurt that. The reason I want to take all of those classes is I want to be able to take the MCAT by summer 2012, or else I'd have to wait a year to apply to Med School.
Your help is much appreciated!

ANY and ALL college courses taken anywhere (including co-enrollment courses taken during high school) will be used to calculate your GPA and sGPA when filling out your AMCAS application.

If you’re hoping to take courses “off record”–there is no such thing when it comes to medical school applications.

Taking your pre-req coursework as transient (non degree seeking student) at a university different from your home school while you’re still enrolled at your home school is going to raising questions about why you’re doing so. It could appear you’re ducking hard classes at your own U.

Med school applications are time-sensitive and many med school use a form of rolling admissions. Applying late in the application period (i.e. after Aug. 15) could badly damage your chances of getting interviews.

If you take your MCAT in the summer, then add the 4 weeks it takes to get your score back, then add another 1-4 weeks for submitting your application and getting it verified–well that puts you very late into the application period. Maybe too late.

It might be better to wait a year and apply during next cycle than to rush into a late, poorly strategized application this year…
