So I read the pre-req featured thread listed above, but i was still a little confused. I'm a freshman at a cc right now, With only like 1 of the pre req's done for Davis. I only have one more year and i don't know if i can finish all of it. (i still need 3 semesters of chem, 2 or 3 semesters of calc and they said 2 semesters of organic chem would be recommended) If i only get, say, 2 semesters of chem finished, and 1 semester of calc, would that kill my chances?

One more thing, do the UC's not accept summer classes for credit?

they do accept summer classes for credit, but you have to make sure the classes you take during summer are transferable.

Unless you’re majoring in something that’s heavily impacted, such as engineering, you don’t need to have all your pre-reqs done. I was accepted last fall with only 1 semester of Calc, 1 semester of introductory bio, and the gen chem series done (I only had the O-chem series left to do).

i’m majoring in bio… so i’m pretty sure that’s heavily impacted…
so i can take some of the pre req classes during the summer and it would be okay?

Of course you can take classes for this summer, if you’re applying next year. But you cannot take them the summer before you transfer.

oh i was planning on this summer haha.
but i remember reading somewhere that summer classes won’t transfer. i guess i’m remembering it wrong, but thanks for your help guys

My roommate was a Biological Sciences major before she changed her major to Animal Science during winter quarter (all my roommates are transfer students like me). She didn’t even complete chemistry (specifically O-Chem) before coming to Davis, and she was fine.

And LAforlife, you’re wrong about that. I took classes the summer before I transferred and I was fine (and even completed IGETC that summer. My CC then forwarded my IGETC certification to UCD in October after they finished processing the paperwork). UC Davis allows you to take classes the summer before you transfer. The only classes you CANNOT take the summer before you transfer are the courses required for UC admission (that is, 2 transferable courses in English, one transferable course in math, and four transferable courses from two of the following subject areas: Arts and Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or Physical and Biological Sciences).

@sopranokitty

What I meant was that UCs generally do not take classes taken in the summer before transfer into admission consideration. Of course you can take classes the summer before transfer and receive credit, but they will not help you for admission purposes.
