This is purely speculative at this point, but if I was considering going into business, what classes would I take in a pre-business concentration in addition to my biomed engineering course load? I was considering majoring in biomed engineering and trying to take many of the business school prerequisite courses as electives/over the summer in case I considered going into business vs. engineering or medical school-- would that be possible? Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.

macro or microeconomics

possibly statistics as well, depending on how indepth your major/school concerns itself with statistics

IMO, psychology is useful for business folk, though not a requirement

agreed. In a similar vein, classes relating to labor relations (e.g. organizational behavior) would be useful, too.

lol most grad business schools don't have strict requirements but I would say macro/micro economics or statistics. They might be interested in your work history and professional references though ;)

Thanks! I'm just trying to make sure that I take enough classes to keep my options open (since the job market will really start to fluctuate in the coming years). If I take the right classes, I can either go pure biomed engineering out of college or go to med/business school. Thanks for the advice though!

Backtracking a bit: Is there a place where I can find the exact prerequisites for business school?

My father says many of his engineering and physician clients are clueless regarding pricing of their services and measuring the health and value of their practices. As a biomedical engineer, the number of electives you can take are limited. He recommends basic accounting courses and finance. Microeconomics is nice, but not necessary. You will probably take stats in engineering school, so no need to take the business version. An operations research class can also be helpful.

Yajimari, if u want to check the exact prerequisites for a business school, you need to go to the site of the specific business school your interested in.
Heres the requirements for NYU Stern:http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/admissions/fulltime/applyingtostern.cfm?doc_id=7464

Yeah, I'm in an MBA program and took no prereqs having an engineering degree. Business schools won't require that you have macro/micro economics before entering, they will want you to have it before you leave. I would concentrate on my engineering degree, and not worry about what I need to get into an MBA program.

Really, all you need is proven leadership skills, a good GPA, an outstanding GMAT, and a ton of money.

Thanks so much and LOL @ Jasper's frankness. I'll see what I can do.
