I failed precalc 115 at rutgers and I'm a freshman so this is my first semester. Trust me do not make the same mistake as I did and take the class. Math has always been my best subject but Rutgers is just horrible. I have a question for people who have currently been in my situation and I know theres alot considering more then half the class fails each year. In order to replace my F, do I have to take precalc 115 over again, or can I just take precalc 111 my spring semester and then precalc 112 my fall semester sophmore year?

I just want to add on to what the OP said. Precalc 115 is a hard class and I know plenty of people who were having quite some trouble with it. I was placed into 115 this past fall semester. During the first lecture/recitation, they’ll do a review of material you’re expected to know. If the material reviewed isn’t practically second-nature to you and you don’t know all of it, do yourself a favor and drop the class in favor of 111, like I did.

The 111 class is significantly easier and goes at a much slower pace (I was told the first exam of 115 is similar to the final of 111). I failed precalc in highschool and now I actually understand it and am doing pretty damn well.

As for your question, I’m pretty sure you could do either. Your best bet would be to speak to an Academic Advisor to be certain.

“Math has always been my best subject but Rutgers is just horrible.”
I laughed when I read that; no offense. FYI, Rutgers has a very solid math/physics program in case you didn’t know.

The advisor said you could take precalc 111 and 112 in order to replace the 115 grade so that’s what I’m going to do. I know Rutgers has a solid math program, I’m just stating the fact that precalc 115 is a very hard course esp with no curve.

Come to Busch mslc, we have free tutoring (and we love tutoring precalc)! The courses are much faster and more rigorous than in high school, don’t get discouraged.

First semester of freshman year is very rough. I wouldn’t blame Rutgers entirely, you could’ve had a really bad professor, or you didn’t have the study skills you needed for that class. When you retake it, make sure you go to office hours, and as said above, go to mslc tutoring!

I heard the passing rate for 1 semester precalc is less than 30%. You should have done full year instead.
