I live in florida and I’m thinking about taking precalc online on flvs. I was wondering if this is a good idea or if its too hard?
I’m not sure about the specific program, but I am in precalc now. If you are motivated to study on your own, you should be fine-- although I am a pretty strong student in math, I feel like I would feel pretty comfortable teaching myself the material on my own because it’s not too difficult. I would recommend finding a teacher in your school that you can ask questions to during the year/summer (whenever you take the course) because it is sometimes good to have an actual person to talk to about what you do not understand.
okay thx. If I take it online its gonna be during the summer.
As long as your current high school will accept that FLVS precalc and will allow you to move on to a higher level of math (calculus etc.) then go for it.
My kids have taken Geometry and Alg 2 thru FLVS and it didn’t seem to put them at a disadvantage later on. The great thing is that you can work at your own pace…breeze through what you find easy and take longer to concentrate on what you don’t. I can’t speak specifically to Pre-Calc, but overall I think the format is really great for self-motivated, bright kids. You WILL have a human teacher to consult with in the event that you have trouble with a topic. Doing a whole year of advanced math over a summer is not going to be easy. I hope you don’t have a lot of other activities planned.
