Predict Me! Yale, Harvard, and other competitive schools!

Hey everybody!
So I've decided to follow the trend and do a predict me thread. Basically I would really appreciate if you guys would make a prediction of my results with these schools. Some useful information before diving into the stats: Financial assistance is not a factor for me. Thanks!

SAT I (breakdown): N/A
ACT (breakdown): 35 (35 Reading, 35 English, 35 Math, 35 Science)
SAT II (place score in parentheses): 800 Biology, 790 US History, 760 Chemistry
PSAT: 227 (National Merit Semi-Finalist probable)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.84
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School does not rank
AP (place score in parentheses): APUSH (5), AP French (5), AP Physics B (5), AP Physics C, AP Literature and Composition, AP Calc BC
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semi-Finalist, National Semi-Finalist in Congress Debate 2013, National Qualifier in Congress Debate 2014

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses):

*Model United Nations - Secretary-General (President) of this club. I cannot fully describe how much effort and time I have devoted to this activity. Debate and International Relations are my two primary passions so when I entered high school I was seriously disappointed in the state of the Model UN Club. I have spent the past three years building up the club and bringing it back from the brink of ruin. I have reinvigorated our annual conference and we now host over 200 area students each year for an all day conference, which makes upwards of 2,000+ dollars, run entirely by me and my staff. I have gotten the club to out of town conferences, fought with the school administration over budget constraints, and tripled the size of the club's membership. It is my responsibility to train all of the members and this year we have won over 15 awards at three regional conferences (maybe not impressive to universities, but if it's passion they want I'm proud of my club and it took a lot of hard work). 5 hours a week, 9-12th grades

*Student Government - Clerk (President) of and 4 time elected representative to the student honor board. Only 2 representatives from each grade are elected annually, and I am the only representative from my grade who has served all four possible terms. As president of the committee, I have pushed to reform out school's decades old and outdated disciplinary system with a new academic honor code that compromises between student input and the school's interest, so I believe I have made an impact. I take this commitment very seriously, and I don't think it will come across as flimsy resume padding or the result of a pointless popularity contest. 2-3 hours a week, 9-12th grades

*Debate Club - Member of the Debate Club, I participate in the Congress Debate event. Sophomore year I ranked 8th in my region and advanced to nationals and national semi-finals after qualifying at my regional tournament. Junior year I ranked 1st in my region and advanced to nationals. I also have a series of best senator, silver medal, and gold medal awards from local tournaments. 3-4 hours a week, 9-12th grades

*School Newspaper - News Editor for the school newspaper. During my freshman, sophomore, and junior years I wrote in 13 of the 15 editions that have been published. I have been featured on the front page 3 times. 4 hours a week, 9-12th grades

*Squash Team - 4 year member of the squash team. I have been playing squash for five years and I play in regional tournaments as well as on my school team, I really love the sport although I am far from great at it. 3.5 hours a week, 7-12th grades

*Volunteer Tutoring - I tutor underprivileged elementary school students on a weekly basis. I struggled to find a volunteer outlet that was really meaningful to me but I think I've found one in this program. I really connect with the two boys I tutor and I love seeing them every week. I tutor them in a variety of subjects, help them with homework, and teach them a series of lesson plans concerning topics ranging from earth science to american history. I may be the head of the school club that organizes this program next year. 9-12th grades, 3 hours a week.

Job/Work Experience: This summer I interned in a congressional office in Washington DC. I worked 45 hours a week, for 2 months (around 390 hours total), and it was an incredible experience. I was the youngest intern there and got along really well with the staff, so I'll be asking them for a supplementary recommendation! I have also volunteered for several local campaigns.

Volunteer/Community Service: Volunteer tutor described above (3 hrs/week for 4 years)

Summer Activities: Summer Immersive Langauge Academy for French, Service and French Language Immersion Trip, Summer conflict resolution camp for students from the USA and the Middle East with a competitive application (10% accepted, well known program), Summer Internship on Capitol Hill.

Essays: I think my Common App is really good! I've run it by English teachers, mentors, parents, siblings, and cousins, and they all said it sounds just like me and shows a lot of heart and passion. 9/10

Other
State (if domestic applicant): Maryland
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Private, Competitive
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: High
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Extensive legacy at Yale (sibling, cousins, aunts, uncles, second cousins, great uncles, all sharing my last name). Parent and sibling attended Harvard. Both parents attended Stanford for grad school (I don't know if this counts as a legacy).
Intended Major: International Relations, Political Science, Maybe Minor in Middle Eastern Studies

Predict me for these schools:
Yale (SCEA)
Harvard
Stanford
UVA
UMichigan
Carleton
Middlebury
Tufts
Pomona

Thank you all so much - If you need/want any more information, let me know! Also if you think I'll get deferred to acceptance or rejection for Yale, please indicate that as well!

bump up to stay on front page!

Your grades and testing will get you past the filter, but I think your ECs are pretty conventional/typical. You will need to write something cool in your essay to distinguish yourself. Also, I think these days that legacy matters only if the legacy gave big bucks – otherwise, too many legacies are applying . . . .

Thanks @makennacompton‌ ! My family legacy at Yale has been pretty active for the school, but I understand your point.
Could you predict my results?

Yale (SCEA) - Waitlisted
Harvard - Waitlisted
Stanford - Rejected
UVA - Accepted
UMichigan - Accepted
Carleton - Accepted
Middlebury - Accepted
Tufts - Accepted
Pomona - Accepted

Thanks @viphan‌ !

I am not trying to be mean, but I won’t to be honest and give honest feedback:

Yale: Accepted
Harvard: Rejected
Stanford: rejected
Rest are accepted

@tryhardalay‌ thanks so much! Not mean at all - I appreciate your honesty, and honestly if your prediction came true I would be thrilled!
All predictions are welcome!

I think you’ll get in everywhere except Harvard, Yale or Stanford.

Yale (SCEA) accepted
Harvard waitlisted
Stanford rejected
UVA accepted
UMichigan accepted
Carleton accepted
Middlebury accepted
Tufts accepted
Pomona accepted

Thanks @carolinetaheri‌ and @madglav‌ ! @madglav‌ do you think i won’t get into any of those three? Or one of the three?

bump10char?

Please cut down the words used to describe your ECs. EC descriptions should be succinct, convey the most important information, and highlight achievements over emotions. Put your emotions in the essays.

Good luck!

Haha thanks @Skyrior‌ ! Those are definitely not the descriptions I am using on the Common Application (the character limit wouldn’t allow it), I just wanted to provide people on CC the most information possible (information that will likely come across in essays about my ECs and my counselor rec) and give them an accurate representation of my participation in my ECs. That being said, thanks for your input! Could you predict me?

App looks pretty good except for the GPA.

Yale (SCEA) deferred
Harvard waitlisted
Stanford rejected
UVA accepted
UMichigan accepted
Carleton accepted
Middlebury accepted
Tufts accepted
Pomona accepted

Thanks @puzzled123‌
Just to clarify for my GPA, my school report will show that, coupled with my course load, this is one of the highest GPAs in my grade, but I do understand that it isn’t as high as these universities are used to seeing.
Do you think I will be accepted to Yale regular? Or rejected?

@crazyfrog821‌

Although your school has grade deflation, colleges like to report high average GPAs for their newly admitted classes. While you are one of the top students in your school, the rest of your application will need to make a particularly compelling case to the university to balance out a hit in its average admitted GPA.

In terms of Yale, I think it all depends on your senior year. Can you pull a 4.0? Will you have major developments in your extracurriculars? If you do something extraordinary, I think you will get the acceptance. But Yale is incredibly difficult to get into- so I think if you have a senior year similar to your previous ones, you may get rejected.

If you’re going to let us predict you, show us what you’re going to put on the application screen, NOT your life story. The admissions are not going to see your life story. Why give us your life story if it’s only going to cause us to predict differently than that of the admissions?

@Skyrior‌ Okay, Im sorry that I elaborated too much on my extracurriculars, but I’m not exactly sure why you would care so much. I have an essay about student government and Model UN, and my school counselor showed her recommendation which includes a good deal more detail than I specified here about the role I play in my school community through these activities.
Thanks for your input anyways.

What you wrote:

*Student Government - Clerk (President) of and 4 time elected representative to the student honor board. Only 2 representatives from each grade are elected annually, and I am the only representative from my grade who has served all four possible terms. As president of the committee, I have pushed to reform out school’s decades old and outdated disciplinary system with a new academic honor code that compromises between student input and the school’s interest, so I believe I have made an impact. I take this commitment very seriously, and I don’t think it will come across as flimsy resume padding or the result of a pointless popularity contest. 2-3 hours a week, 9-12th grades.

What you can fit in on CommonApp:

Student Government - President of committee and made reforms to make new honor codes, I take this very seriously…

It is much less impressive in the second example. Hence why I would rather see the shortened version than the long version. It is extremely hard to get this part right, but it will be worth it.

I might suggest:

Student Government - 4-year elected President, made reforms to revitalize school disciplinary system and update school-wide academic honor code.

“School-wide” shows the SCOPE of your job.
“4-year” shows your COMMITMENT
“elected” implies CHARISMA/TRUST in you

Every word must count in the activity description. Spend some time on this, it will definitely help.
