do u have all prereqs, any EC, essays?

IN: UCSB, UCD, UCSD
Good chances at UCB, UCLA
most likely in either one.

in at all for sure save for Cal.

your gpa is very strong. Your chances are only better if you did not mention any extracurriculars or exceptional circumstances you may have had.

Remember....some students with 4.0's trying to get into EECS @ CAL get rejected....so anything can happen.......

i didn't have much extracurriculars....I was VP of Engineering Club, and PTK member....also worked 10hr/week

prereqs are done....all in two years

I got into UCLA for EECS last year with a 3.69, and I was missing 2-3 prereqs, so you have a very good chance

daddyvader: how's the transition?

wait a sec.. "Your chances are only better if you did not mention any extracurriculars or exceptional circumstances you may have had."

did i understand that correctly? less EC's = better chances??

You won't get in any of them. Now where's my money? JK.

I would say you have a good chance in any of those schools but I'm transferring myself so I wouldn't know otherwise I wouldn't be as apprehensive as you.

What really makes me laugh is the people that replied before me that tell you, you have a good chance when they have GPAs and records similar to yours but they're worrying about their own chance in other posts. It's like they're trying to give themselves more confidence XD

I was accepted to UCLA for EE, but I actually decided to go to Berkeley for Mechanical and Materials Science engineering.

The transition to Cal was rough, the workload is intense, the midterms can be brutal, and there are crazy smart people everywhere. For anyone interested in transferring to Cal for engineering, my advice would be to make sure you get your prereqs done, I didn't and the 2 lower div courses I needed to take are way harder than the upper div stuff. By harder I mean a lot more work and time commitment is needed. Oh, and the curves are harsher.

DaddyVader1: ah I c....

something that simultaneously scares and excites me.

DaddyVader1, you are scaring all of us!

i'm not trying to discourage or scare anyone off from going to Cal, but I'm just saying, be prepared to be challenged. I know for me personally, if I didn't understand a concept in jc, at least half the class didn't as well. But here, its not unusual to find people who sleep through lectures, or don't even show up at all, but come midterms, they finish within 30 minutes and score the highest grade. You are really competing against the best, so if you aren't naturally that gifted, like me, then you have to work extremely hard just to keep up, forget about getting an A in the class, but just passing.

The courses are also taught at what I feel, an accelerated reate. There isn't much time to digest the information b/c you always have a midterm for some other class coming up. The only time I feel caught up in my classes is during the first 4 weeks of instruction, and then after finals.

But on a brighter note, I know some other jc transfers who have adapted to Cal and are doing quite decent. Just work hard, and maintain the same drive you had at jc. Hope this helps someone who might be considering Cal

yeah, i'm totally afriad of that. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and i'm not the hardest worker so I really hope i don't get overwhelmed at a new school.

To be honest, I don't even think that I will survive at UCLA, that is if I get in. Then again, that is for the adcoms at UCLA to determine.

Nickei, As Pol Sci major u should be fine.... I know a lot of below average/average academicly students who transferred from SMC to UCLA As Pol Scie majors and did fine. U'll be asked to read and write ur paper.

It's the science majors that have to worry about like daddyvader explained.

Thanks, Yuriy. I am hoping that the transition into a prestigious and competitive university such as UCLA will not get to me. I cannot even begin to imagine the rigor of the material that I'll have to face in my upper-division courses. I was just wondering, do you happen to know anyone (friends/family) who is currently attending UCLA? On another note, how are your classes going? I heard that you have 8am classes from M-F. That is rough. It's like highschool all over again. haha.

i know a lot of people who are attending UCLA. Even 6 people in my Ochem classes are attending UCLA, but there are just taking science classes at SMC. They are all social science majors. But, i can't say i am close to any of them.

As for my classes, they are going OK. Hard for me to say much about them since i have not taken a test or turned anything in for any of my classes. Which is typical of science classes. I am kinda behind, so this weekend is very important. I have two tests next week. The schedule is not that good, since i have class everyday at 8 AM till about 11am and then two night classes as well. I shouldn't complain b/c i know there are people out there who have it much worse than I. K enough about me.

How is are ur classes going?
