Pretty crazy course rigor throughout HS: Quantum Physics, Organic Chemistry, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Cell Physiology, Immunology, Analytical Chem, Physical Chem, Bio Chem, and all AP english and social studies’

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semifinalist, National AP Scholar. Have applied to Intel and have a pretty good chance at getting to semifinals (I invented some computer stuff to markedly improve Parkinson’s research)

Subjective:

Volunteer/Community service: Lots of miscellaneous stuff, but the Camp counselor work experience was as a volunteer.
Summer Activities: (See above)

Essays (rating 1-10, details):

Essays are 8+, both parents are writers and I have them working with me on them. I’ve got a lot of dramatic, good stories about how my grandparents have Parkinson’s so I did Parkinson’s research, carried a kid out of a valley on my back during a camping trip when he gashed his knee open, etc.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: Computer Science Teacher, 8/10. He had everyone he gave a rec to fill out a form, so I gave him a bunch of good material to write about. Very eloquent guy, Harvard journalist turned CS major, should be a good rec.
Teacher Rec #2: Economics teacher: 9-10/10. Loves me, I get hundreds on everything in his class.
Counselor Rec: 8/10. I talk with her fairly often, she likes me. Gave her some good material to write about
Additional Rec:10/10 From the PI of the lab where I worked, well-respected researcher. Said he would write a “Glowing” rec for me at the end of the internship
Interview: I’ve interview well, have had a few and they’ve gone well so far

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, but don’t really need it
Intended Major: Computer Engineering, maybe double major with econ/business
State (if domestic applicant): MD
Country (if international applicant): N/A
School Type: Public, Magnet
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Upper
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): No real hooks

Also took a bunch of Computer Science courses, i.e. Data structures analysis, Analysis of Algorithms

Due to their emphasis on GPA, UCB and UCLA will be reaches for you. Also, UCB EECS and UCLA CS admit by major and are generally considered significantly more selective than the campus overall, so they will be even more of a reach.

If it would help me, I know they only calculate gpa based on sophomore and junior year classes, that bumps my unweighted up to a 3.8

I predict an acceptance for U Maryland.

Do you go to school in Maryland?

Yeah

@waswaswasnt in moco? Sounds like you go to Blair

@ryanordy88 shh don’t say it so loud, but yeah

Bump

@Gumbymom any thoughts on my chances for ucs?

USC: Match-High Match
UCLA/UCB: Low Reach based on stats- Essays and EC’s could tip the scales in your favor

Good Luck.

I’m thinking about adding in a few top, top schools, a la Harvard/mit/Stanford. Obviously my chance of getting in is low, but do I have a good enough chance for it to be worth my time?

Your grades will be an obstacle but otherwise you’re competitive. Go for it!

@Multiverse7 Alright, thanks! Any thoughts on which top school I’d have the best chance at through regular decision? List of the schools i consider top top for what I want to do : Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Caltech, Princeton, maybe Duke, Columbia.

Sorry, no clue. All those schools will be reaches for you. When you’re talking about the RD round the acceptance rate at a school like Harvard is just over 3%. Nobody can tell you if you’ll be the one selected out of the 33 applicants they look at.

Oof, didn’t know it was that low. Regardless, thanks.

You will get into all UCs
