Predict my results!

As I wait for decisions to come, I thought it’d be fun to have people predict where I’d get in (or not get in) and see if it’s accurate! So here are my schools:

Yale SCEA
UVA EA (nominated for the Jefferson scholarship)
Columbia
UPenn
NYU
Brandeis
BU
Northeastern
Hofstra
Tufts (not sure if I’m applying yet)
Georgetown (also unsure)

So here’s info about me:

I go to a competitive high school in Long Island, NY
Female, white
My unweighted GPA is a 98.6, weighted is a 100.46
Rank: 2/307
34 ACT highest single sitting(36 R, 36 E, 36 M, 28 S) 35 superscored
800 SAT 2 U.S history, 770 SAT 2 world history, 700 SAT 2 biology (I don’t think I’m sending bio)
AP’s: World (5), U.S history (5), English Lang (5), physics 1 (3). Took Spanish and math honors as well.
Senior courses: AP u.s gov, AP calc BC, AP Spanish, AP English literature, AP psychology, Gilder Lehrman historical research class, orchestra
Intended major: English literature or international relations

EC’s:
Violin. I’ve been in a lot of youth orchestras, done summer programs, etc. One of the top LI violinists (distinguished in junior year). I didn’t make it into all state though, it’s super competitive.
Drama. I’ve been alternating between cast, crew, and pit orchestra since freshman year. Named a senior officer
President and editor in chief of my school’s literary magazine. I’ve also been published in a national publication for teenage poets.
Yearbook editor in chief
Founder and president of my school’s chamber orchestra, I did a lot of community service from that and NHS.
President of English honor society and NHS. In NHS and every subject honors society, including music.
Volunteered at LI children’s museum and an organization that takes in underprivileged kids and helps them complete high school (it’s a boarding school of sorts).
Won a national Spanish exam gold medal 3 years in a row. Won district essay contests in Spanish.
Poetry out loud regional competition participant for 2 years.

Writing is probably my biggest strength so I’m hoping common app and supplements can seal the deal for some schools.
Recommendations are hopefully good. I picked my AP English teacher (had her in 9th and 11th grade) and my honors Spanish teacher (had her in 10th and 11th).

Thanks! I’ll update the thread as decisions come in.

I also applied for the BU trustee scholarship

I also forgot to add that I’m in this tutoring organization called tutors for a cure where we give $5 of our earnings per hour to the American cancer society. I tutor English and Spanish. It’s a really cool thing that I was invited to do

For Tufts and Georgetown, I think you’ll be accepted into both!!

good profile! remember that super competitive schools are pretty unpredictable and that you’re a super qualified applicant. if writing is your strength, i’m sure you’ll have the chance to make a lasting impression with your admissions essay. best wishes!

Thank you all so much!!! I’m hoping that a lot of these predictions are right, haha

Good luck and keep us posted.

@londondad I will! Thank you :slight_smile:

I’m jealous of your subject test scores haha! And I applied as an English major for Yale SCEA too…here’s my stats if you’d like a comparison…http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1939905-chance-me-p1.html

@yalehopeful017 I’m jealous of your extracurriculars! Here’s hoping that we both get in on the 15th!

I do too! It would be so cool to meet you in person, haha. You probably have a better chance than me of getting in though, I’m against four other kids in my grade early and they all have like 2390’s!

@yalehopeful017 seriously? Gosh, the kids at your school must be even more insane than the kids at mine. I’m pretty sure I’m up against the valedictorian of another school in my district, but her intended major is theatre so I don’t know if we’d be compared too much.

Still, the competition in general is crazy. I don’t understand how some kids have perfect scores on everything AND win like international competitions. But I really hope my essays and recs could pull me through.

It would be awesome to meet a fellow English nerd who seems to love Yale as much as I do! Hopefully we’ll get the opportunity to be classmates.

I got accepted into Hofstra w/merit today!!

Haha you have no idea. We have 60+ kids with a 4.65 GPA! Keep in mind that my school just won an award for being academically rigorous and high performing nationally…those GPA’s aren’t just handed out. That, plus the fact my school has over 20 National Merit Semifinalists, does make my chances seem kinda bleak…being against just the valedictorian of another district would be my dream lol

I know! I personally didn’t spend my life studying for standardized testing like most of these kids. Sure, I could have and would probably have higher scores, but I think it’s more important to make an impact. Yale does claim they want leaders and global citizens…I guess I’ll be able to see if they really mean that. I’m definitely the person that’s made the biggest impact of the Yale SCEA kids at my school

I mean, they do have to take a few of us English majors  I hear that we’re dying out! (haha) People just seem to appreciate English less nowadays…what a shame. I’d love to meet a fellow English nerd as well<3 Yale is just so so so amazing.

Congrats on the Hofstra acceptance! Predictions:

Yale SCEA- rejected
UVA EA (nominated for the Jefferson scholarship)- accepted
Columbia- waitlisted
UPenn- waitlisted
NYU- accepted
Brandeis- accepted
BU- accepted
Northeastern- accepted
Tufts (not sure if I’m applying yet)- waitlisted unless you show interest
Georgetown (also unsure)- accepted

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1936788-predict-my-results-stanford-mit-princeton-cmu-and-others.html#latest

@yalehopeful017 that’s actually insane. My school is considered really good in an already competitive area (Long island is craaazy) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen over 20 NM semifinalists from one school! It must be cutthroat.

Yeah, I totally agree. I took the ACT twice, the second time my composite went down a point (of course that’d happen to me) and I just decided I’m done. I really don’t think that in the end a 35 versus a 34 will be the deal breaker

In BC calc today I got into an argument with one of my best friends over English. I love him to death but he cannot stand English at all, hates writing, doesn’t understand the purpose of analysis, and he was calling me crazy for wanting to do that as one of my majors. :stuck_out_tongue: I love it though. It opens up a whole other world, and being able to create color in people’s minds out of black and white letters is way cooler than calculating Integrals in my opinion!
