Predict the Class of 2018 acceptance rate

I really want to go to Stanford and am aware it passed up Harvard as the most selective school in the country. What do you all predict for the acceptance rate and yield?

Last year, the Stanford applicant pool consisted of 38,828 students, up from 36,631 the year before. That’s about a six percent increase. If we assume a similar increase this year, then approximately 41,000 students will apply.

Stanford admitted 2,210 to the Class of 2017, which safely assumed what seemed to be an unprecedented yield rate of 77% (target class size: 1,700). The yield rate for the Class of 2017 was 76.7%. Given this yield rate, the admission office will likely be more conservative this year. It will likely be safe by assuming a yield rate of 79%. This means that it will likely admit approximately 2,150 applicants.

2,150/41,000 = 5.24% acceptance rate.

^^pretty much agree with alea…and also with Data10 (who has a knack of producing great statistical data) who posted this prediction recently:

Unfortunately for all the Stanford dream-schoolers out there…the acceptance rate will be somewhere between 5.1 to 5.24 this coming year…and due to the zeitgeist of where the top students want to study and settle down (bay-area) in the future “after” college…Stanford will continue to have the toughest/lowest acceptance rate in the years to come…

lol yeah haha. I’d say my top 4 choices (with no preference for either over another) right now are Stanford, Penn-Wharton, Princeton, and Chicago. Looks like none of them will be easy to get into…

I think it will be 4.9%

I’m looking at around a 5.14% acceptance rate…

Let’s just say sub-5!

Let’s just say too low.

The more you hope, the more you will be disappointed. Move on kids, apply more, and prepare more. Stanford is the best
school, but it’s not the limit of
your future.

Agreed. Most people who are successful and happy in life did not go to Stanford. It’s great if you get in but it will not ensure future happiness or financial success.

According to President Hennessy, the acceptance rate is expected to be below 5%.

According to <a href=“Class of 2018 admit rates lowest in University history”>http://www.stanforddaily.com/2014/03/28/class-of-2018-admit-rates-lowest-in-university-history/</a> , the acceptance rate was 5.1% (when rounded to the nearest tenths place).

^props to whoever sniped that one… curious as to why harvard’s went up while YPSM’s went down, though.
