The science killed me; there just wasn’t enough time and that decibal part was confusing. Reading wasn’t too bad (the eel passage put me to sleep), english was how it has always been, and math, for me, was the easiest out of all the math tests I’ve taken.

i missed perhaps the three easiest question on the math cause of carelessness :(

Can someone please enlighten me, what exactly does a curve have to do with the ACT?

i got 8 wrong on science last time and i got a 28

however this test was a bit easier than that one, so i would imagine the curve will be something like this for science:

-1 (35)
-2 (33)
-3 (32)
-4 (31)
-5 (30)
-6 (29)
-7 (28)
-8 (27)

Yeah, but he DIDN’T check it. The teacher could tell he guessed. I think he just did what he knew and guessed on the rest b/c he looked around at everyone with this weird look.

I think some of the curves could be higher because the curves in the Real ACT Prep Guide vary quite a bit. For instance, on one test -6 on science is a 30 and on another it’s a 27.

Are the curves published by the ACT?

twan i really hope your prediction of the science curve isn’t true haha.

If you ordered the test information release, you’ll be able to find out the curve. But you won’t receive that for a while… I ordered the June 2008 test release and the curve was evil.

English -1 was a 35, -2 was a 34
Math -1 was a 35, -2 was a 34
Reading -1 was a 35, -2 was a 34
Science -1 was a 36, -2 or -3 was a 35

Last time, I couldn’t even finish the science section.
I didn’t know the time limits were so quick, and I’m the type to look at everything. This time, I got through the whole thing b/c I didn’t read. I just looked at the ?s and looked for the study or either what it was talking about in the graph.

I think they’ll be more lenient with the science section b/c it seemed kind of easy. Too easy (and I suck at science…but this is more like common sense science and reading graphs)

Also, is it impossible to score a 34 on the science portion?
Because the ACT scoring chart in their prep book goes something like this:

36 -0
35 -1
34 –
33 -2

…and so on

What does the curve mean?
For example when you say -2 –> 34 for a section… does that mean two wrong and you get a 34. or does the -2 reflect the formula that’s like number correct/total number of questions *36.

-2 –> 34 means if you get 2 wrong, say a 73/75 on English, you get a 34.

And no it’s not impossible to get a 34 on the science, depending on the curve. On some curves, yes it may be impossible. But on the curve from June 2008, it was not impossible to get a 34, but it WAS impossible to get a 33 on science.

I feel as though everything is either “really hard” or “really easy (or easier)” for the science…

This leaves the curve at…

I hated taking this test because of the stupid time constraints. I think I almost went nuts on the science section trying to confirm answers. Hopefully, I’ll be lucky enough to get a 25+ composite or something.

hey matok will you go ahead and tell us what -3 -4 and -5 are in each section of the june 2008 as well?

hey guys i ordered the April 2009 test booklet and i have those curves as a comparison if anyone is interested…

I am, could you post the curves ? i dont really care much past 28 in each section, but anything would be appreciated. thanks
