Predict the Curve!

@matok

Can you rate the difficulty of the sections compared to other ACT tests?

Like for example,

Math: Easy
Reading: Hard
etc…

Well for background: I took June 2008 a week after finishing 10th grade, then didn’t take another ACT until this past June 2009 test. I went into 2008 completely cold, no studying, but I’m a great test-taker. I got a 30 composite–> 33E 32R 30M 26S. I actually left 3 math problems completely blank and filled in random bubbles for like 4 others, and science I was completely lost because I didn’t know any strategies such as skipping straight to the question. I took two practice tests before June2009 test.

I think this year’s science was actually more difficult, math was probably the same, reading was easier (but I’ve read probably 50+ books since last June), and English was a bit tougher. I feel like this year, there were more questions designed to trick us, and quite a bit of ambiguity.

I feel the same way. In the English section, the questions were somewhat different. There seemed to be a lot more “Which one of these do not fit?”. I don’t remember any questions in which you had to reorder the paragraphs. There were more in which you had to reorder the sentences. This was the hardest English I’ve taken.

I’m reallllllllly liking that June 2009 curve, especially if science and english get better curves :)

Thanks matok!

FYI just so no one is mistaken, that’s June of 2008, NOT this year. This year’s has not been released as far as I know :)

Ooops. I meant June 2008, sorry. (although I wouldn’t mind if the curve stayed the same!)

gah, i just hope i do better than last time.

thanks matok, hey mbshooter can you post yours now?

So, you guyz think that the reading curve will b harsh again this time?

I felt that the reading section was relatively easy this time around, so I imagine it will be somewhat harsh. -1=34 is definitely a possibility, though I’m hoping for -1=35.

Hey, here’s the April 2009 curve, as requested

E:
0x-36
1-3x-35
4x-34
5x-33
6x-32
7x-31
8-9x-30
10x-29
11x-28

Math (very nice curve):
0-1x-36
2-3x-35
4x-34
5-6x-33
7x-32
8-9x-31
10x-30
11x-29
12-13x-28

Reading: (harsh)
0x-36
1x-34
2x-33
3x-32
4x-30
5x-29
6x-28

Science:
0-1x-36
2x-35
3x-34
4x-32
5x-31
6x-30
7x-29
8x-28

There you have it

Woooah that math curve is crazy! Care to compare April’s vs. June’s difficulties? Thanks for the post.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw your comments on difficulty in the other thread

@matok
haha no problem, glad the curve benefitted u
im really hoping its similar this time around, except a little better in reading
if so, i think i did well

i think -1 will be a 36 this time in reading

I think (and hope) the reading curve will be much better. The passages from this test were much harder than those in April’s test.

No one cares
