Hi! I’m currently a rising senior who has been doing the full IB for a year. My courses are Language and Literature HL, Theatre HL, Psychology HL, Math AI SL, Spanish B SL, Biology SL and Theory of Knowledge. I have been in the top 5-10% of my class since ninth grade, and I am anticipating an IB score of 41+ out of 45. When you look at my transcripts, it’s also clear that I’ve always had an increasing progression as well.
Here’s the problem: I did really bad on my first semester in sophomore year (I got sick during exam season lol) and I even landed a C in an advanced math class. I know that my overall GPA is quite low (3.5-3.7 range) for top schools, but would the AdComm pay attention to my IB predicted score?
If you are in a U.S school, there is usually more focus on GPA. Sophomore year would not be reflected in an IB score in any case. The upward trend and strong scores on the SL exams you took this year will all help.
Ah, I see. I actually go to a school in Indonesia where we also take the IB MYP (like a preparatory program for the IBDP). They score the same way as the IBDP, so I’m guessing my school will calculate my own GPA? I’m scared that some things will be overlooked because my grades don’t just tell one story…
Since you are applying from abroad, they will probably look at both. Your predicted scores may be given heavier weight if they aren’t familiar with the grading scale. It will be helpful if your school has a good track record in achieving predictions.
