Ok, so we won't know the official cut-offs until late August/early September.
The national average went down slightly.
99% is from 212-240, which is the same as last year.
In this thread, we can start making predictions about each state's cut-off.
(Or in general, if scores will increase/decrease).

I predict that PSAT cutoff scores will be generally lower nationally. If I'm right, that will be good news for a lot of Juniors out their (and their parents!).

For New York, I predict a cutoff score of 218.

Best luck to all and we'll all keep our fingers crossed.

In general, I don't think the scores will change a lot this year. There was a significant decrease last year because of a change in the writing section curve (to further predict SAT scores).

Last year, pompous old Massachusetts just haaaaaad to have the highest cutoff (of 225), so I'm hoping this year they will realize the error of their ways, and reduce it to 210. :)

Last year Ga had 214. Hope it stays the same. =]

i am predicting oregon will go up to 214. Whatever the cut-off (can't be more than 220 for oregon) though i will make nmsf anways

After last years drop, I'd predict that the scores will go up. Not enough to make up for the huge drop in some states (some being down 3-6 points...) however.

I'm just glad that I'm a senior and don't have to deal with this anymore. Yay being a 2008 semifinalist! (Now I just have to wait for Feb. for finalists to be announced).

By how many points do you think they will increase on average?

^Depends on the state. I'd guess that the states that dropped the most this past year will increase the most (ie the one state that dropped from 206 to 200 may go up to something like 203).
For my own state, it dropped from 209 to 206. If I had to guess I'd say that this year the cutoff will be somewhere around 208-209.

Mind you, I could be incredibly wrong on this.
My only reasoning is that this years juniors may have seen how low the cutoffs were last year and would work extra hard/ prepare more to make sure that they make whatever it is this year.

I think your explanation is very reasonable.
My concern is whether scores will be higher than the 2006 PSAT (the year before the writing section changed and the big drop in scores).

I'm in a scary place...
MO had 214, then went down to 211... I got a 212, so we'll see in 10 months or so if I'm a NMSF

The cutoff is probably going to be anywhere from 211-214 for your state. Scores dropped because of the new curves on the new writing section. This year's scores are very similar to last year's on a national level. (Actually there was a decrease). So if scores do change, most people aren't expecting big increases.

Last year I got a 220 and only got commended (MA)

For Washington (state) I'm gonna go with 215. Because that's what is was last year and (I think) the year the before.

Last year Nebraska had a cutoff of 210, I believe. From what I've heard around school, scores are pretty low this year, and someone told me this year's cutoff is 207.

I got a 222, so I'm not going to worry about it.

cut-off for a state can't increase by 10 pts right?

^ It can, but it's highly unlikely.

IL was 218..went down to 213 (last year) - any predictions?? 217 and nervous

I got a 217 and in NY... kinda nervous. Hope it goes down to 217... If it's at 218 ill just be a tad bit disappointed. (217-219 in past yrs)

I was wondering what the cutoff score will be in NJ
