Predictions, not chances, for a California Junior

Okay, so I caved and I'm posting a chances thread....

So the schools I'm interested in: Brown, Tufts, UCLA, UCSD, and UC Davis

I go to a very competetive high school in California (Top 10 public in the state), and will have by the end of Jr. year a 3.7uw (4.14w) GPA w/ 4 AP's, including Calc AB (5), BC (this year), European History (4), and Biology (this year).

SAT I: 2140, 710m, 690v, 740w (retaking in May)
SAT II: Math IIC 750, retaking math and taking bio in June

EC's: Summer@Brown program for 2 summers in a row, Berkeley Animal Care Services volunteer, Kaiser Volunteer (this summer), Lawrence Berkeley Lab intern (this summer), Tennis (3 years), and Karate (from 2nd grade till 10th). I am also in the California Scholarship Federation program.

So, I'm very focused on going to medical school, my major will probably be Biology with an emphasis in either cell development or genetics or something of the like...any ideas? Oh yeah, I'm Indian (Asian Indian).

I go to a very competetive high school in California (Top 10 public in the state), and will have by the end of Jr. year a 3.7w (4w) GPA w/ 4 AP's (Calc AB/BC, Chem, Bio)

SAT I: 2230, 790m, 740v, 700w (retaking in June)
SAT II: Taking Bio/Chem/Math in May - expect good scores.

EC's: (I'm Ashamed)

Your app pwns me.

Bump Bump Bump

I'm lookin at brown / tufts too.

You obviously kick ass in biology/math, so I assume you went to summer@brown for bio/math stuff? If you did that'll help a bunch. For brown just write a killllerrr essay. Enlighten them, take a view on bio as a greater entity; if i had to write an essay on bio i'd compare biology to some tangible but totoally outrageous object, like a salt shaker (i dunno haha, an idea), but tie in your experiences. Your scores are good too.

Id say high chance tufts, good chance at brown, butim not sure about the UC's, i never looked at them. I'd give you predictions but its hard to call with brown i hear

You have a really good chance to all of them

thanks guys, I'll definitely try to raise my gpa/sat's and stuff, and write hella good essays!

Wizzump to the bizzump

Predictions:

-probably will get into Tufts. But there is the "Tufts syndrome"...I don't know if you would be be hurt by that.
-can't say on Brown, kind of 50/50. It all hinges on your recommendations and essays, I think. Scores are actually secondary to personal qualities at Brown.
And the way I see your app, you're pretty much a typical indian kid with bio research who plays tennis and aspires to be a doctor. So make yourself stand out, through your essays or whatever.

Don't know about the UCs.

Thanks, and yeah, I seem like a typical Indian =/ , but I am different in many ways. I guess the key is just proving my uniqueness...

It's so funny that, no matter how much people say stereotypes are wrong, there are so many Indian kids who play tennis and want to be bio/med majors and so many Asian kids who play Piano and want to major in engineering and other math dependent subjects.

So true...so true...

If interested in good pre-med programs might also look at Duke and Hopkins, Other very good programs are at Holy Cross and Brandeis.

I would say UCSD and UCD should be relative matches - as UCs are very numbers driven, but biology-related fields are tip-top at UCSD right? That might make it a little bit more difficult...

Hmm, I always thought of UCSD and UCD as relative safety schools....

Yah. I'd say they were (Super Reaches).

I know the UC system pretty well. I have a friend who wants to major in Bio who ironically didn't get into UCLA, but got into Davis and SD. SD and Davis are actually more known for their bio too. Then I get everyone else I know made it into UCLA. I say that all three UCs are a match though. Its a little iffy how sure it is though. Also my friend who made it into UCSD had lower stats then yours except for the SAT. He had ridiculously high SAT scores and strong ECs.

I find this funny because I'm Asian and I hate playing the piano (quit after 5 years in elementry school) and wouldn't touch any engineering/math with a stick.
