curious, does doing summer-programs at schools (not only upenn) help when applying to that particular college? i think ive read somewhere (it may have been in regard to columia's summer programs) that doing those programs dont carry any weight when applying to that college. as far as showing interest, haven't we all done so by applying ed?

i don't think so... the summer college things*

My guidance counselor told one of my friends that Penn especially weighs any special interest (ED and the summer program).

hahaha, even if it did weigh it, i wouldn't think it did it much... considering those who went were those who could pay

I think Penn admissions people should come to this site to decide who gets in. I mean c'mon..."My short answers suck." Why would you put short answers that you think suck on your application? I don't think Penn wants a good student with a complete lack of self-confidence. Just hope for the best.

This site makes me feel like I should be cutting myself or something....but it's sooo addicting. Maybe I like to see other people suffer! :(

I screwed up the "What do you do for fun" question. Everyone put down one of their extracurricular activities and got a chance to explore an important part of their application. I just talked about hanging out with my friends and doing nothing. Yeah, that's what Penn wants, a kid who likes NOTHING!

hows this i called maiheng dietrich a male under the prof i'd like to study with section... oops, i forgot the s

For what I like to do for fun, I put...

talk to my friends
read science fiction novels
discuss and argue about politics and religion
watch "The West Wing"
listen to all kinds of music
listen to thunderstorms
take walks
solve math equations
take pictures
organize
write in my journal
drink Starbucks coffee
and go to bookstores

Nothing particularly original. And a lot of non-specific nothing.

For the Professor one (I actually put an Assistant Professor...because it was my honest answer), I said I wanted to study the history of women and the development of society so I can better understand my strong opposition to modern day feminism.

Hopefully they're not like "wow, she's sexist".
Well, honestly, maybe I am.

You know, I submitted a really weird picture of myself. REALLY wide-eyed stare that freaks people out.

I said something like Christine (except without the math equations, thanks), I think it's stupid when people put their extracurriculars that they do for college apps--they're not the things you do for fun. I think Penn knows that, and values honest answers, not bull***** ones :) Bongo--actually, doing nothing, as in thinking? I'm sure Penn wants people who reflect--not everyone likes doing things all the time, and that's okay

I don't remember putting anything.......I don't even remember the question........oh man.........

bongo23

Dude, don't sweat it. If they wanted to hear us talk about our EC's, they wouldn't have a whole separate section specifically for that. I think they actually want to hear people say "do nothing" or just "hang out."

That's what I put, at least.

Remember that each part of an application has its purpose, and no two are the same.

yea, I put something similar too, its easy to tell which kids are trying to make it seem like theyre perfect students who would like nothing better than to walk around with calc books stuck to their faces. I like hangin out at starbucks with my friends, drinking coffee while enjoying some good conversation...and laughing...and thats what i told penn.

so in my careless lack of attention to this board ive become the only person yet to post their predictions...soo here goes

as far as numbers go i really have no idea...

accept
1. awesome unique essays that really show who i am..well according to those that read them
2. strong EC's - leadership, community service- lots of commitment to them
3. gpa and rank are pretty good
4. really really great recs from teachers who love me

reject
1. awful sat scores (yea were talkin 1900)
2. no interview
3. lets face it..i go to a crappy high school on the jersey shore..they see the name and im out the window

and im probably the only other cheerleader applying to penn (i coach/ choreograph a cheer-dance team) ..well besides the girl from cali...yay for breaking the stereotypes =)

I used to cheerlead, but I quit because it interfered with math team time...yeah, few people can claim that one.

hmm good point lol...

im a cheerleader who dated a band/drama kid for three years...that have any hold?...although im not sure penn would really care about that one hah

Lol, I thought about putting that I was a "first lady of the Science Olympiad Team", "first lady of Mu Alpha Theta", and "first lady of the Student Government", but...too bad Wellesley isn't still a where-the-girls-who-marry-Harvard-boys school, or else I'd be in in a heartbeat.
