Preferred method of updates

I was deferred in the EA cycle, and have been wanting to send updates on new achievements, a letter, and a first-semester transcript. MIT's Q&A somewhere (I don't remember exactly which year, but I believe it was 2011, 2012, or 2013) says to send as early as possible, but also says that MIT prefers updates with the February Notes and Updates form. These seem to be conflicting messages.

Most of what I want to say would be awkward to fit with the midyear report, so I'll probably send as a mail update. But I just want to know if anyone else has done or is planning to do something similar.

You should wait until February and send in your updates with the February midyear updates form.

See the [Q&A for deferred students](http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/qa-for-ea-deferred-and-regular-action-students) up on the blogs right now:

The updates as soon as possible message might have been for after a deadline, when you’d want any updates to get in as soon as possible before they go into committee. In this case I’m pretty sure they’re not going to make any decisions regarding your application until after the February updates.

Thank you!
