Hi. I'm from the Northeast and I wish to apply to selective schools around here. I felt that I didn't do that well on the SAT. Everything is else is good (I have a high GPA, class rank, extracurriculars, service hours, etc). If I take the ACT, get a score around 30, and submit that, will that work against me, even though most people that submit the ACT come from the midwest?

There’s a common misconception that colleges prefer the SAT over the ACT. I haven’t taken the ACT, but most of my friends have taken both. They all feel the ACT was easier by a marked degree. This could be because I’ve heard the English is easier and the Math is more difficult on the ACT. It doesn’t hurt to take both. Scores above 30 are usually considered excellent scores. It equates with, I think, 2000 on the SAT. Don’t expect an incredible score way above your SAT, though. It still isn’t easy. : )

Good luck. : D
P.S. Don’t worry. I did badly on the SAT too. ^ u ^
