Prefrosh Host?

Were prefrosh (like myself) supposed to have received an e-mail or phone call from their host? I did get confirmation from Caltech that I would be attending, but I haven't heard anything from my host. I saw on the website http://admissions.caltech.edu/prefrosh/visiting/#weekend that my contact info was given to my host and that he/she would be contacting me. Any fellow prefrosh heard anything from their hosts yet?

I don't think you're supposed to hear anything until you meet them on campus. That's how it was for me last year.

I think technically your host was supposed to send you a friendly email, if it was on the form. But... all he'd do is tell you the status of extra bedspace, to bring a sleeping bag (probably), to not forget shower sandals, shampoo/soap, and a towel; and to ask if you had any questions.

The key thing, actually, is to remember the House/Host, because there will be runners for each House that take you to your room, but it speeds things up if you know who you're with.

/at least, that's the way it worked when I was a frosh...

I got really friendly emails from both my hosts yesterday!

My host graduated from my high school last year. :)

-Oren

Mine too :D

This year, there was a lot of hands on work trying to match prefrosh with suitable hosts. That said, though, if there's any issues, talk to your house's prefrosh rep, who can help resolve any problems you may have (or they'll pass it on to me).

While we're interested in (plural) you, the host is simply there to have someone for you to connect with if /you/ choose. This weekend is all about giving you opportunities and letting you decide what to make of them (much like the next four years, should you choose to come to Caltech). I barely saw my prefrosh host, by my own choice. He was pretty cool and offered help at first, but I just wanted to wander around, which worked out pretty good for me.

That said, although I would normally suggest you get some sleep at some point during prefrosh weekend, with only one full day on campus, you really should try to experience the "night life" in the Houses. It's an entirely different set of people and personalities on display.
