Prelaw, Accounting Major

UT isnt the only LS in Texas with good job placement, SMU/UH do well in their respective cities.

@Twinkie

Their are plenty of Law School’s outside the T14 that are in Big Cities.

Tax Law does seem pretty boring.

Dallas = 4th Largest Legal Market, Houston = 6th Largest Legal Market. NY/LA/Chi round out the top 3. Philly = 5
How many T14s are their in Texas? none…

Texas probably seems boring to a lot of people, but we’re booming.(LOL)

so why is this turning into a law school thread? the title reads prelaw, accounting major. when it comes to choosing one between the two, i think the general concensus is the following:

T25 law (notice not T15) > Accounting > Law.

This is taking a lot into consideration, including starting salaries, debt, upward mobility, job security, and so on.

I have no doubt that various Texas law schools can get you jobs. I dispute the idea that it’s worth paying to go to any but UT. Simply getting a job isn’t enough, it really has to be an associate gig at a BigLaw firm otherwise it’s not going to be worth the cash, particularly if you are an accounting major that can get a job. If Baker Botts hires you for 160k that’s obviously worth it. If Sanford and Sons, LLP hires you at 50k it’s not going to cover your UHLC student loans. Obviously that’s better than graduating from Cooley Law and working at McDonalds in Detroit…but still not a good idea.

I got a 176 on a practice LSAT test(the book with three old tests sold by the LSAC). I didn’t study for the LSAT at all but I took the GMAT recently so my preparation for that probably carried over. Personally I won’t consider going to Law School unless it’s top 14 and a lot is paid by somebody else. Hope isn’t a plan, I’m not a special snowflake and half the people that go to law school end up below median(thank you, Business Statistics). The opportunity cost plus the actual cost is pretty obscene.

Leaves thread

@Whistle

how do you do that quote thing? ive been meaning to ask you that.

@jonah

I doubt you’ll find someone else to pay for your T14 degree. Just imagine how many applicants have 175s at the T14s… But who knows you may be an exception.

When i talk about LS, im assuming that the student makes it through with good grades.(at least top 25% of their school) Im also assuming they get a good amount of money and dont have to take out the full amount

FrenchBoy…I know. The good thing is that they make it really easy to send applications, even to the T14. Top MBA programs generally require a bunch of different idiotic essays so few people apply to very many of them.

It seems nearly everyone assumes they’ll be top 25% at LS, the problem is 75% are wrong.

Thx @noim

@jonah

true, i dont think 75% are wrong.(atleast not from this site)

Jonah, if you got that score using official LSAT test conditions then I applaud you. That is an impressive score and a hard test.

I timed each section with my iPhone although I had classes in between sections. Honestly though I think the only one where test conditions(i…e time) really mattered is the games part, but the GMAT helped me with that. It took me a few tries to get the Quant section of the GMAT done in 75 minutes(barely). My brain was still in the right place to do the games section in time(barely).

Actually if you could pull off a 176 on the real LSAT and have a 3.8+ GPA, there would be law schools in the T14 that would give you full tuition scholarships. You’d have a good chance at $$$ everywhere outside of Yale/Harvard/Stanford. And you would actually have a shot at getting into Yale/Harvard/Stanford. Numbers like 176/3.8+ are exceptionally rare.

yeah i know that @situation , I’m assuming he doesnt have that 3.8. He can probably get a full ride with a 176 from SMU/UH. Maybe UT, the mean their is around 168 i believe.

I’ll have an LSDAS of 3.7 only(3.9 at current school). 3.7/176 non-URM isn’t really a lock for $$$ at top 10 based on a review of LawSchoolNumbers people with similar numbers.
