Did anyone get a Cal Grant? I didn't at all.

No. I think they froze them because our state is in too much debt. I don't think I'm eligible anyways because my AGI was too high for a family of 3 people.

I heard they decided to give them out again.

This is terrible. There is no way I could afford UCSD with this FA package.

I got it. Possible Cal Grant B.

I got it.

Possible Cal Grant A $7,788.

When it says "possible," it means its not set in stone until I send in my 2008 tax return report? correct? It's basing it off my estimations on my FAFSA?

Do you think they'll give me more money if my dad calls saying that he's in his sixties, wants to retire soon, and currently doesn't have a full time job? Our EFC is around $14,400 and we can't afford it.

how/where do you check?

On the page that says you were accepted, click the button near the bottom. Then there should be four links at the top of the next page... one is about financial aid.

I got one too. Possible Cal Grant A $7,788.

"Cal Grant awards are made by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). Therefore, the listing of this award does not guarantee that you will receive an award. Please submit to us any correspondence that you receive from CSAC about the status of your possible Cal Grant."

And then they gave me a bunch of loans and a work-study. :/

I got a PLUS loan of $14,000. =(
I don't think we can afford this. I only got about $2,000 worth of free money.
Is there anyway we can get more student loans and less of the PLUS loan?

*** I only got 222 bucks

D just got accepted but for Winter 2010 - so won't be eligible for on campus housing....anyone know how FA works with off campus housing?

Pell Grant $2,700
Possible Cal Grant B + $1,551
Academic Competitiveness Grant + $750
UCSD Grant + $9,508
Other Outside Aid + $0

Total Gift Aid = $14,509

My Total Gift Aid = $14,509

So without loans, I pay Total Net Cost = $11,014

My EFC is $2664 so if I took all loans it would be free!

Is that good? (I don't want to take loans--don't wanna be in debt!)

^that is way higher than mine.

The total cost for this year is 25523? Do they have a break down for this anywhere? I keep seeing around 23000 for 08/09, how did it go up by 2 grand?

If I didn't get a Cal Grant is there a chance that it's because they haven't processed it yet?
I think this year my family was below the poverty line (family of 5) so I'm pretty sure I should be getting a Cal Grant. For UC Davis I got Cal Grant!

Cali_mom, they'll give your D, 2 quarters of financial aid but being off campus doesnt significantly change how much FA you get.

one of my roommates (also a winter admit) got more than she needed and got a big check sent our apartment with extra grant money she had left over.

Total cost isnt really that much..
each quarter's reg fees = $3k at most / so for the whole year= reg fees = $9k
if you are on campus = room and board = $10k at most
(off campus less than 10k)
books each quarter .. really depends on the classes but i'd estimate 200/quarter // so 600 a year
and I cant think of any other fees.
my estimated total =19600
so it doesnt really cost 25,000.

Dont stress too much over the estimates.

got a cal grant B
They gave me 17000 aid. I never knew room and board was so much. if I live in a frat, hopefully it will be better :p.

If I already have health care, do I still have to pay for health insurance? how much will that take off from the total cost?

I got nothing.
