PreMed at Cornell

Hi i am considering cornell highly and just saw that cornell posted that students had approx 89% acceptance rate with a gpa 3.4 and above. Is this usually the case? is a 3.4 at Cornell managable?

If you're an engineer, 3.4 should be cake.

If you are in A&S, you better be prepared to study your butt off for a 3.4. Their courses are indepth, very technical, and always have a ridiculous curve.

the kid said premed...so i guess he/she ain't gonna be in engineering college ameechee

the 89% is misleading. It does not mean that if you maintain a 3.4 you have a ~90% of being accepted into a med school. For example a person with a 4.0 might have 98% chance of being accepted, whereas a person witha 3.4 might just have a 70% (just random numbers).

Bingo. Acceptance rates of students with 3.4-3.5 GPA's is only around 60%. 3.8+ is really good.

Is it manageable to get a 3.4+? I'm constantly wondering if I'll be able to make it with a 3.4+ at Cornell these days. Sometimes I feel like I picked the wrong university to do premed. Why didn't I pick some college nobody ever knows about and not have to deal with the competition?

Can someone tell me how much time and natural ability it takes to be competitive for medical school at Cornell?

Lot of time and tons of work. But if you want it you can do it; they accepted you so they have confidence that you can.
