I am a senior right now… I am wondering if Stony Brook truly deserves the hype it gets for being an affordable and school with decent opportunities (if you work hard). My main concern is that those opportunities are too oversaturated with other gunner premeds and if the classes are way too difficult to maintain a good GPA in (since the class size is really big for sciences). I would like to do premed, but am I better off finding a private or Liberal Arts college with a smaller class size with still great opportunities to find (shadowing, hospitals, and mainly research, which is what I am interested in doing). I am also wondering how many premed Sea Wolfs are getting accepted into med schools statistically. I am really considering going to Stony Brook, as it has what I am looking for in terms of distance and research opportunities, but I’m wondering if what I’ve heard about the school is true.
