PreMed at UCLA

what are the popular premed majors at UCLA?

my current major is biochem- is that one of them? i heard mimg was...

also...i want to double major in a liberal arts like english....how is the english program there? what other programs are super at ucla?

UCLA CLASS OF 2009!! WHOOO!

I heard EE was a popular major to do Premed. lol jk

Biology is probably good one too. Psychology too perhaps?

Not sure what the popular majors are, but any major is fine..choose something you really like.

there's no such thing as a "pre-med" major, but there are majors that "pre-meds" commonly take. the list would include:

biology
psychobiology
MIMG
MCD bio
chemistry
biochem

english is the second most popular "pre-med" major nationwide after biochemistry.

tack my major on^physiology

^ oops forgot about that!

yeah it seems that physiological science is a very popular major with the pre-meds

..but I'm still sticking with Philosophy ;)

Some of my best doctors(I've had a lot with an HMO) have majored in something other than the sciences(bio, chem, etc...yes, I asked. I'm a dweeb.) They had much better bed-side manner, too.

You can be a good doctor with any major. A lot of those qualities are inborn. It's not like a Psych major is going to automatically have more empathy than an engineering major.

There's also Neuroscience.

terribly sorry, aim78, that was not my implication. It was more of an attempt to give an example of doctors not majoring in sciences as still being good. The bed-side manner part was there simply as an observation of my very limited sample, hardly representative.

editted:

biology
psychobiology
MIMG
MCD bio
chemistry
biochem
physiological sci
neurosci

other options: english, philosophy
(note: if you pick one of these options, you'll still need to take all the science core courses so you're prepared for the MCAT).
