Premed at ucsd really that good?

As an incoming freshman, a lot of people have mentioned how ucsd is a great school for premed. But according to this statistic provided by the career office, ucsd's medical school admission rate is 38%, way below the national average. I understand that being premed is all about self motivation and effort, but why is this rate so low and should i be worried?

We have a huge volume of people applying, and we have a huge volume of people getting accepted. People on the lower end of the GPA are still encouraged to apply; they just get don’t get discouraged for whatever reason. Maybe that is a testimony to the fact that our classes aren’t design to weed out students? Maybe the peers that pre-med students have here are just that encouraging? Who knows.

Or, we send an overwhelming sheer amount of students to each medical school. They want diversity for their school and are therefore unwilling to accept too many students from the same school

comparison:

It’s also important to remember that many schools may have a pre-med committee that writes letters for students applying to med school. They are generally able to choose who they support, so weak applicants are weeded out before they even apply to medical school, thereby inflating their acceptance percentages. UCSD doesn’t have that system so any student can apply if they want to.

The strength of a premed program can’t boil down to one statistic. It’s like determining which class is the best just by looking at how many students enroll in it.

According to the link posted by DistressStudent, UCSD seems more impressive, 2 to Stanford while UCLA has none. Did I read that correctly?

I’ve read that UCSD is the top BS/MD program in the nation.
