Hello guys: I am a rising senior who knows that in college, I will be taking premed requirements, with a possible english/humanities major. I am deep in the college search and application process, and want to know from current Upenn students (if there are any on this board) how the premed counseling is, the course difficulty, and basically any other factor I should consider for an undergraduate university. Thanks!

Premed at UPenn is very competitive but it undoubtably provides you with top-notch preparation for med school. I know that career services does counseling for premed although I have received mixed reviews about them. However, there are a bunch of premed-oriented groups on campus, most notably PMA…they count as ECs and they basically have upperclassmen who answer your questions and bring in med school counselors & doctors to talk to you.

In terms of premed classes, most of the curves are pretty tough. In orgo, they have a policy that the prof cannot award more than 30% As (A+, A, A-) and that the class must be curved to a B-/C+. For the most part, professors end up giving about 25% As, 35% Bs, and the rest Cs although it definitely varies. I have heard that the curves for introductory bio and chem are equally tough.

However, I don’t think the tough curves should deter you from considering pre-med at Penn. The professors are truly amazing and the courses really do prepare you well for med school.
