My daughter was accepted at Wellesley. She will study neuroscience and be on a premed track. My concern is how difficult is it to get a good gpa, which is important for med school. I keep reading about grade deflation and this concerns me. My daughter is a hard worker, will her grades at Wellesley reflect that?
Hi! I’m a current pre med junior at Wellesley. Getting a good GPA at W can be quite difficult, and it’s best if your daughter learns quickly what studying strategies work best for her. Wellesley has a lot to offer as far as tutoring as well, and professors really care about your success. My personal experience has led me to “slow my roll” and do some of my pre med classes in undergrad, then some in a post-bac program. I’ve found this works best for me because I can take more time to care about the pre med classes instead of trying to cram them all in 4 years. Your daughter may be very different, and that’s fine!
We also have a great pre med advisor, Lynn White. She definitely knows what she’s talking about and makes realistic plans with every student she works with.
*something else worth noting: Every time Wellesley sends an official transcript, they include a cover letter explaining grade deflation. Don’t know who looks at this, but I hope SOMEONE does…
There are LOTS of talented women who graduate from Wellesley and move on to careers in medicine. @Astrofeline Someone must be looking at those cover letters.
