Premed Duke vs Penn vs Columbia vs Brown

I was fortunate enough to be accepted into these great universities, and I would love to go to any of them. However, I can attend only one. I just want your thoughts on which you think is the best for a pre-med student majoring in chemistry and why.

Have you visited them? If so, what did you like or dislike?

All four are equally stellar for what you want (which may change, incidentally, as it does for most students during the course of their undergrad careers). Choose the school at which you think you’d be happiest, and at which you’d best thrive both academically and socially. At this level of academic eminence, the rest will take care of itself, and you can’t go wrong with any one of these four phenomenal schools. So bottom line? Go with your (well-informed) gut. And congratulations on having four fantastic choices!

The only one that I’ve had the chance to visit was Duke. I do plan on visiting the others on the recruitment weekends. I liked just about everything about Duke. However, I’ve lived in NC for almost my entire life and a change of scenery would be nice. I’m visiting Penn next week.

Well you will know more after your visits. It’s nice that you have the opportunity.

Look in the Brown forum. There is a thread on why it’s great to be premed at Brown, posted by someone who did and is graduated and in med school and still posts on the forum.

Columbia has the Core- a list of required Liberal Arts classes that all students must take.
Brown requires you to take ONLY the classes required by your major. So that would in my mind be a big + for Brown. And the fact that many classes are pass/ fail optional is yet another + for Brown.
