I plan on majoring in psychology and also doing premed. I'll have a heavy science load no matter which major I ultimately choose. I'm just worried about applying to med school from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. I know it doesn't matter what you major in for premed, but applying from HSS must look a bit weird. Why can't CMU just have an Arts + Sciences school like everyone else? :(

No offense, but that's the kind of thing that people usually consider when they're applying to schools...

if a school doesn't offer a program that fits your academic preferences, then don't go there...find a place that does...don't complain about the school after you've applied!

Why does it matter? If you take the right science courses, get a high GPA (which is very possible in HSS), and get a high MCAT score, you can go to ANY med school you want.

Don't worry about applying from H&SS. It really doesn't matter as long as you take the basic science requirements (and maybe a couple others, like Physiology and Biochemistry).

I applied from the H&SS departments and didn't have problems - don't worry about med school applications quite yet, you have several years to go. Just work hard and get good grades and be sure to meet with Dr. Burkert regularly, who will put you on the right path.
