I'm not in any of them, but I know people who are, and its quite ridiculous to me that many of them walk around in scrubs all day trying to assess people who have injuries, and to top it all off, have shirts that say "X High School Medical Students." I think it makes both them and the school look absolutely stupid. You're years and years away from becoming anything close to being a med student, and just because you're in high school learning the names of diseases and all the body systems doesn't mean you're going to get into med school. That's why I didn't join the clubs because I'd personally be embarrassed to be around people like that.

Is this representative of anyone else's school or is it just the ones in my district? I just think it's extremely ridiculous.

they try to assess people’s diseases?
thats pretty shady

Thats definitely not what most premedical clubs in hs are like. Well at least the one in my school… i dont think the purpose of the club is to learn about diseases and stuff, its more to help students discover an interest in the health field through speakers and retired doctors and hospital tours…

yeah ZFanatic same thing in my school also not in it for next year instead going to take science classes. There is still many years before we actually go to med school.

My friend and i are starting a club called “Future Medical Leaders” (■■■) at our school. The plan is to get shirts that say “What do you say when you go to med school?” on the front and ■■■ on the back

We are going to try to get people from an assortment of medical careers to come in and talk to students (including physical therapy and nursing) and are thinking about having a medical career awareness night as well.

I agree with you though…people that think they actually ARE medical students at age 16 are a little too imaginative…

Im in HOSA, came in 4th place at a competition in January. My Medical Technology class is sooo boring, I sleep everyday in there… We walk around in our scrubs though, but I really don’t learn anything that I didn’t know from a regular science class. My cpr skills are a joke…LMAO so don’t call me when someone needs help. We visit our local hospital every week and sometimes that can be interesting and other times a waste. The teacher overwhelms us in vocab & notes, but I kind of appreciate it because it’s preparing us for the real world.
