I’m a high school senior interested in the premed program with a biochemistry major, and I was hoping to get some insight as to what the programs are like in UT Austin and in UT Dallas to help with my decision on which school to go to. Like how much help did the school provide you in applying for med school and preparing you for the MCAT, how difficult it was to get a good rec letter, how difficult was it to get research opportunities and internships, and how are the class sizes (especially for UT Austin ie how much smaller the classes get in upper level courses)? Also, I hear that UT Dallas is a commuter school, so how does that affect the campus life there?
As a student at UTD I can tell you that the social is not phenomenal here but you will get along fine as long as you find the right friends. As for the difference between the 2. UT is higher ranked in the school of natural sciences. It will provide for you more rigor. In terms of getting into med school UTd has many connections to UT southwestern possibly making it easier for you to get in. The student body at utd is a lot smaller than UT making it easier to get a letter of rec. Some say that acquiring a high GPA at utd is a lot easier than at UT. In my opinion it is hard anywhere. Overall UT is obviously a better school however obtaining a research position at utd is not very difficult and admission to med school is rather high.
