I want to be on a premed track/ major and i want to minor journalism. Would brown be a good fit in this regard?

Brown (and the rest of elite academia) doesn’t have a premed major. I0t also doesn’t have a journalism department/major, and doesn’t have minors. That said, there’s lots that it does have that might make it a good fit for you – others will chime in.

Brown tends not to do pre-professionalism, and lots (most?) of other elite institutions don’t either. That being said, Brown is a breeding ground for people ending up pretty much where they want to be, and there’s not a lack of people going into journalism from here (nor a lack of premeds).

This thread gives some information about journalism at Brown: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/563214-brown-journalism.html

As mgcsinc said, though, there are no minors, and there’s no Journalism major. It’s definitely possible, however, to complete premed requirements while pursuing the available opportunities, whether you’re writing for the Brown Daily Herald or concentrating (majoring) in English or Literary Arts. My sophomore year roommate is an English major who is completing the pre-med requirements, so such a combination is not unheard of.

Edit: In fact, the Open Curriculum actually makes it somewhat easier to pursue interests in generally-disparate areas, since there are no course or distribution requirements, so that could be a plus.

There’s the 7 year med program that Brown has, and you could always join the daily herald for journalism experience.

7 year med program? Do you mean PLME? That’s an 8 year program, and it’s intensely competitive to get into. Assuming one will get into that program is not a good idea. Joining the Daily Herald, though, is a very good idea for journalism experience (although the majority of the CS department will no longer speak to the BDH because of what we perceive as horrid misrepresentation of our quotations).

^Luckily, due to the utter failure that is institutional memory at colleges, the CS dept. will stop hating the herald in a year or so :)

^I’d give it a little more time than just one year. Some of the misquotations actually caused the withdrawal of a job offer for a senior, while other articles have perpetuated fundamentally flawed descriptions of the field while heavily implying due to lack of context that some of the courses are sexist. So if I had to guess…2 years until the hatred stops.

^I assume/hope someone in the department worked to make sure that senior ended up okay?

Presumably things are set - this happened in September (CS companies like to make offers to students after summer internships, I gather), so she had plenty of time to either convince the company that she was misquoted or interview for other positions.
