Hi everybody,

I will be attending Duke University this fall. I just found out that I got a 5 on my BC calc exam, meaning that I can get credit for Math 31 and 32. Now, for medical school requirements, some require a semester of calculus (Hopkins, Harvard, Washu, Dartmouth, Duke, and Brown, to name a few). Duke allows credit for 2 APs. If I get credit for calculus, will the above schools consider that a fulfillment of the math requirement, or will they require 1 or 2 semesters to be taken in college? I don't want to take higher level math, so I suppose if they don't I'll have to take Calc 1 again, which I really don't want to do....Somebody help me!!!!!!!

Thanks

med schools generally don't like AP credits. Retake Calc 1 for the easier A -- grades are paramount for med school.

If you don't want to go onto intermediate calc (MATH 103), think about taking MATH 41 (which is calc 1 and 2 combined) and perhaps a stats or compsci class for your other QS requirement.

Yeh, AP credit usually doesn't swing it for that sort of thing. You should take at least a semester of calculus. If you don't want to retake old material you could take Math 103! (lots of people don't like Math 103 but I didn't mind it, but I really like calculus and didn't like Linear Algebra and Diff Eq so thats where I am coming from)

Even though I am premed myself I can't really speak too much more as to what med schools want on this since I am an Engineer and never really looked into the details. (because I figure I'm more than covered on Math)
