Premed Prereqs at CCC? HELP

Hey there, just wanted to clarify something. I was rescinded by all the UC's so I'm trying to go the community college route.

Now, I wanted to transfer into Microbiology and then apply to a medical school, but apparently, med schools don't like it when you take your premed prereqs at a junior college. The problem is that most, if not all of my Microbiology prereqs that I'm required to take are ALSO premed prereqs.

So the problem is, that if I take the prereqs and transfer to UCSD, my school of choice, medical schools will look down on me taking the prereqs at the CC, and in some cases, may not even accept the credit. On the other hand, I don't know how to transfer into Microbiology without completing the prereqs.

PLEASE, can someone clarify as to what I'm supposed to do if my goal is premed? I really want to go to a UC, and I really want this major. I also want to be a decent candidate for medical schools though.

These are my prereqs for the major: BILD 1 & 3, Mathematics 10A, B, 11/10C or 20A, B, C Chemistry 6A, B, C, and 6BL Physics 1A+1AL, 1B+1BL, 1C+1CL or 2A, B, C and one lab (2BL, 2CL, 2DL). As far as I know, a lot of them are also premed prereqs. Could I transfer in as an unrelated major or undeclared and then somehow change my major to Microbio? I really need some help here. :(

tl;dr: I want to transfer into Microbiology at UCSD from a CC, yet I also want to apply for med school. My prereqs for microbio are also premed prereqs. Apparently, med schools don't accept prereqs completed at a junior college, or look down upon it. on the other hand, I don't know how to transfer into microbio without taking the prereqs.

I'm in a huge pickle.

What medical schools really do not like seeing is applicants who started as full time freshman students at a four college and at the same time enrolled in a community college and only took required premed courses at the CC which they could have taken at their four year college or university. In your case, I do not believe you able to enroll in any courses at a UC or CSU until you actually transfer as a junior from your CCC. While medical schools would like you to do all your premed courses at a four year school, most realize that for full time community college students who intend to transfer as juniors there is no realistic alternative to taking their medical school prerequisites at a CCC and therefore are unlikely to hold it against applicants who do their lower division courses at a community college and then transfer to a four year school.

I do not believe medical schools will have any problems accepting courses you took at a CCC if the four year school you transfer to accepts them. There are many students who started at a community college, transferred their junior year to a four year college or university, graduated with a bachelor degree and were accepted by medical schools.

Whew, thank you so much. You have no idea how much this helped me calm down. Thank you very much for the info. I’ll stick to taking my prereqs, and hopefully everything turns out fine.

If you do major in microbiology, you will also have some upper division biology and/or biochemistry courses on your four year school transcript as “confirmation” that you learned enough in the community college courses.

^^^ what the previous poster said

Theres only a few medical schools who look down on cc prereqs. Stanford for example does not accept any cc prereq units i believe. The other schools dont really look down upon it per say as there can be many different reasons as to why an applicant may have gone the cc route. They will have doubts about whether the applicant can handle the course material which can be cleared through good upper division grades and a high mcat score. Dont be discouraged that you’re taking prereqs at a cc. I know many people in medical schools who took most of, if not all their pre reqs at a cc. One is even in Harvard med school right now. Just work hard and dont take ***** from anybody.
