How is th epre med program at Trinity

yeah i was wondering about this as well..

just bumping this thread, because i'm wondering the same thing

My daughter is a FY at Trinity and is in the Pre-Med program. When she filled out her dorm information she indicated that she was pre-med so she was placed with a lot of other pre-med students. The first semester everyone was in the same BIO class with break out sessions and separate labs. I think they had the biggest program in BIO ever about 230 kids. My D was a AP BIO student in high school so she said it was a review of that class. The first Chem was tough but a good basis for Chem this semester. You don’t declare your major until spring of your Sophmore year at Trinity so my D has spent time exploring electives that she thinks she might want to major in. There are special labs and sections of classes for premed students for some of the classes that my D has really enjoyed. They also have a pre-med club but my D hasn’t been that involved with that yet. She really loves the professors and they aren’t kidding when they say you get personal attention from them. She feels at ease going to them for help or asking for advise on her pre-med track, etc. You are randomly signed an advisor and aren’t given a “Pre-Med” advisor per se. They all are aware of the pre-med track and requirements. Once you declare your major you are given an advisior in that area. Let me know if I can answer any more specific questions.

PreMed is really popular here at Trinity and it gets pretty demanding as years progress. texas2008 is right in saying that professors really care about the students here. Trinity has some very good professors in Chemistry and Biology departments.
However, even if you do Premed, this is not strictly a major, your transcript will not show PreMed as a major. I don’t know if you knew this. Since the classes are large, especially Biology classes be really large and it might feel like you are attending a lecture at a big university. But as years progress, people change majors and number of PreMed students comes down and the class size becomes reasonable.
