This might be a dumb question but i would like anyone who really knows to help me out here.

So all i will have left for premed requirements after this year are orgo and the 2nd semester of physics.

I want to take physics over the summer so i wont have to do them together next yr second semester.

If i take physics at a state school (say, a SUNY that is close to home) that will be a lot cheaper than taking summer classes at cornell, and i wont have to stay in ithaca. Will this suffice in fulfilling my requirements for med school? I mean, i know the class gpa won't factor into my cornell gpa, which is the only reason i'm worried about it 'not counting' so to speak. I'm about to register for the SUNY summer session so if i'm screwing up then a swift reply would be much appreciated. thank you guys..

Yeah...it counts. I took physics II at SUNY Binghamton. Just make sure you get approval from the physics department chair if you want to transfer the credit back to Cornell.

thanks man, do i get approval after completing the course or do i do that now?

do it now....it has to be done before you take the course. You can pick up the form from your college registrar I believe.

It works fine for fulfilling requirements, but several med school admissions officers I have talked to said that they frown upon students using the summer to fulfill pre-med requirements especially at a different, easier university.

oy....I don't think Binghamton was much easier than Cornell.

Besides...I have plenty of friends (myself included) who are transfers and completed most of their requirements at their "easier" college and some I have some who had to do physics elsewhere if they wanted to graduate on time...and they had no trouble with med school acceptances

I think 1-2 courses over the summer is probably fine. Yes, it would be better to take physics at Cornell but as long as you don't take all of your premed prereq's over the summer, you should be fine.

yea its not even the whole course. its just the 2nd semester. i transferred here as sophomore from a trimester school that was equally as difficult as cornell where i took some of my other prereqs for premed- plus i think being relieved from physics/orgo at the same time would allow me to do better in orgo (at least theoretically, lol), which may outweigh taking both courses at cornell and not doing as well in either.

I'm also a transfer and I changed my major...so I had 3 years to fulfill all the new requirements. So I needed to take physics II elsewhere so I could graduate on time. I had to go elsewhere because I couldn't afford Cornell's summer tuition and any financial aid you take out over the summer comes out of your eligibility for the academic year. And Cornell won't let you pay with a credit card....Binghamton was way less expensive ($181/credit vs. $925/credit) and you could put it on a credit card...hehe.

I've also been told that physics isn't as important as orgo/bio/chem in the pre-med scheme....but this could just be more bad advice :-)
