What do typical premed students take if they wanna major in biology in their freshman year? I pretty much don't know anything about Duke's system in bio... do higher numbers mean more difficult courses? lol For predent, which would be the easiest A and would still fulfill the requisite for bio?

My friend who's a bio major took Bio 25/26 his freshmen year.

Higher numbers generally indicate higher level material which usually means tougher courses.

You might want to check out the Duke Health Professions Advising website:

Office of Health Professions Advising -- Duke University

Also, for biology specific advise, I'd try searching the Biology department site.

ok i emailed the advisor and this is what im getting. Does anyone know how hard Chem 21L is?

Fall
MATH 31L
CHEM 21L
W20 or a seminar (any topic would be okay; maybe look for something that
has a biology theme?)
Poli Sci or History elective

Spring
MATH 32L
CHEM 22L
W20 or a seminar (whatever you didn't take in the fall)
JPN 2 or KOREAN 126

Do you have any AP credit in Bio, Math, or Chem?

Chem 21L is not a cakewalk, but it's not going to be as hard as some of your classes in later years. It's basically the first semester of chem that incoming freshmen take.

Do you want to minor in anything? Neuroscience, Econ, Political science, Psychology?

i have AP Credits in AP Calc AB and AP Bio, but none in Chem... I guess i wanna minor in poli sci....

If you got a 5 on the AP Calc AB exam, you can skip math 31L and go on to math 32(no L) or 41L (most people recommend 32 over 41). What registration window do you have?

If you register tomorrow, I would recommend Math 32, Polisci 91D, Chem 21L (remember the lab!), and a Writing 20 like Science writing or writing in and about medicine.

what's a registration window lol, im just using ACES or whatever the website it. Iono, I guess I could take my AP credit and take a higher level course, but I want a good grade tho.... O well, I guess Ill take those courses, k tnx!

Right when you get to ACES, it should say something along the lines of your registration window is: June 2_, 2008 at 12pm.

Your Undergraduate Enrollment Window: 6/25/2008 12:00 PM

o does that mean i cant register til tomorrow?

Yeah. You can register at noon tomorrow. Get all the classes you want in your primary bookbag. Then put any classes you may want (in case any of your primary ones fill up) in your alternative bookbag. Then tomorrow, get online about ten minutes before noon and click the register for these classes button =)

lol ok tnx!

and... i think ima take 93D cuz international relations sound more fun

and the teacher has better ratings.

That sounds like it should be good. Just make sure everything fits in your schedule.
