PreMed vs. Lyman Briggs Major

What is the difference if I choose to be a Pre-Med major or a Lyman Briggs major. Which one is better?

@Spartan2020 - There is no pre-med major at MSU, as is pretty typical. You can take the MCAT and apply for medical school from a number of different majors, like biochemistry, biological science, biosystems engineering, etc. My brother-in-law is an anesthesiologist and majored in mechanical engineering at Kansas.

Overall, you have to take the classes required to apply for Med School and succeed on the MCAT.

Lyman Briggs is a residential college that focuses on science and humanities. It offers several majors that are popular with students interested in Med School, and is very popular with students interested in medical careers.

I am currently a Freshmen in Lyman Briggs and I highly recommend choosing Lyman Briggs! As Beaudreau already mentioned, there is no pre-med major at MSU, you just choose a major and make sure you take all of the classes that medical schools require you to complete before applying. A huge majority of students in Lyman Briggs are pre-med, but not everyone. Lyman Briggs’s human biology major is very popular for those who are pre-med and it prepares you really well for medical school.

Lyman Briggs offers smaller classes and so it is easier to get to know your professors which is helpful if you are pre-med since you will need recommendation letters.

Overall, I highly recommend Lyman Briggs to anyone who is interested in science. It is so helpful to be living in the same building that the majority of your classes are in, and living next to people who are in your classes.

I could talk a lot about Briggs but I would be typing for a long time, so if you have any specific questions about Briggs or anything pre-med or anything MSU, just ask away and I’ll try to answer!

Would it be ok if I majored in Psychology with a Child Development Minor, because I want to be a Pediatrician, or should I go to the Lyman Briggs College. Also I don’ know whether I should live in Holmes or Holden Hall.
