Premed. What to doooo?

I'm currently a high school senior and in the process of deciding which schools to apply to. Right now my top choices are UPenn's LSM (Life Sciences and Management) program and Duke's Biomedical Engineering program.

Which of the two above programs would your recommend attending for my four undergrad years as a premed student?

(I understand this might be a bit biased being that this is the Duke forum)

Here are some stats:
SAT I-2300 (700 CR)
SAT II's-800-Math II, 800-Biology, 790-Chemistry
AP's-all 5's-Chemistry, Bio, English Language, Micro, Macro, APUSH, Statistics, Calc BC
research at a lab for one summer
6th place at FBLA Nationals
volunteer at my town's EMS (not an EMT yet)

If you are purely set on medicine BME is probably not for you. You are better off doing a basic science major like bio, biochem, neuro, or something of that nature or anything else you are interested in.

is BME at Duke really that tough?

I feel like if i end up just doing a bio or chem major I’d slack off because I wouldn’t be as interested in it and I’d feel like I’m just wasting four years getting a degree thats useless anyway.

Well, there’s the interest factor for BME (and IMHO, it is very interesting) but I find that for many people, BME really takes commitment and motivation that mere interest sometimes just can’t supply. All too often, I’ve seen premeds tackle BME, find that it’s tough (like any engineering curriculum really), then realize that it’s not worth it for interest alone, and by that time, BME will have seriously impacted their GPA and they spend the rest of their time at Duke playing catch up or trying to bring it back up.

So that’s why I said what I said.
