I am so excited to be part of the G'Town Class of 2010. Cograts to all of you other lucky students!!!

I am interested in following the premed pathway and was wondering which major at G'Town is better for this, and essentially more "do-able". It doesn't necessarily have to be Biology or Chemistry but any major.

Any insight from current premed students or knowledgeable aspiring premed students would be great!!!

Don't know what's best per se, but I plan on doing biochemistry.

You can talk to the premed advisors when you get here, but really is doesn't matter. Most people are bio majors because if you want to be a doctor you're probably interested in biology. After that I think it's psychology, and then probably biochem and chemistry. In terms of what is best for med school application- it doesn't really matter as long as you get the required classes done. The highest nationwide acceptance rate is for music majors, so they like to see that you can be successful in diverse areas. They also like english majors because you'll be able to handle reading lots of books and writing reports. Even though those people are most successful, it's probably easiest to be a science major because then the classes required for premed are the same as your major classes. Just so you know the classes for premed are intro bio, general chem, organic chem, statistics or multivariable calculus, physics and biochem is suggested. All of those may be hard to fit in if they don't go with your major at all.
You don't have to worry too much about your major- it's really easy to change it. Once you get here you can meet with advisors to figure out what's best for you.

if you're in NHS, the premed classes are the same, except instead of the College Biology I and II, you'll take Human Biology I and II. If you're a Human Science major, your requirements will include classes such as Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Biotechnology, Genetics of Health and Disease, Microbiology, etc. You can also take these classes as electives as an International Health or Healthcare Management and Policy major.
