Okay premeds...

What do you guys do with AP credit clashing with med school requirements? A lot of the California med schools seem especially strict on this yet UCSD doesn't allow you to retake for credit if you have AP credit. I am pretty sure there's some way around this as UCSD is known for premeds...rite? I just can't seem to find a good answer...

I'm thinking the same thing. I got 4's on AP Bio and Chem but I still want to take Chem 6A and lower division biology to learn it better. However, with my credit, I'm not allowed to retake it. Med schools don't like AP credit fulfilling their requirements. Is there a way around this without skipping the lower division class and taking the next one? I don't feel like I'm prepared. I don't care to repeat the class. What can we do?

Well I don't think you can do anything much about it now that you've gotten credit. LIke theres no way of taking the class you passed out of for credit now. But the thing I'm thinking is with so many premeds, I'm sure people have been in this situation before and there has to be other ways of meeting requirements for med school.......

if your med school says they don't accept AP credit, there is NO WAY around it. you have to retake it, even if it's chem 6A and you're already a 4th-year chemistry major graduating with a 3.8 GPA. a couple of my classmates had to retake 6A (one guy retook the entire gchem series in a single quarter) for their requirements. and no, UCSD won't give you credit for it, but it doesn't matter -- it's fulfilling a med school requirement, not UCSD's. you can still register for it without any fuss.

oh thanks for clearing that up. i thought that since ucsd doesn't give you credit for it, the med school might not either...but i guess i can just take it for med school.
