I've received ap credit for chemistry b/c I got a 5, but I also heard that med schools won't accept chemistry AP and that you must take basic chemistry in college. I can't retake basic chemistry b/c that would mean duplication of credit right? What should I do? Btw, I'm not even sure I want to be premed yet.

I'm pretty sure you can take basic chemistry; you just won't receive credit for it.

i just withheld my chem ap test score from ucsd. i'm taking it again. that'll be fun...i know most if not all the concepts anyway. 80% of my school that took the chem ap test got 5's and the rest got 4's, so i'll probably be acing the tests.

How did you withheld Your AP test scores? Did you just not send them? I want to take math again.

ucsdhopeful: I bet it'll be people like you I will be hating for setting curves throughout the year. :(

Are you going to take Chem 6A or Chem 6AH?

drew: contacted College Board. i sent them via the 2006 ap tests i took.

syneria: sorry. if it's any consolation, i took chem my junior year and i don't remember anything. example: calc, which i also took junior year. i vaguely remember how to take simple derivatives, but nothing more. i imagine it'll be the same for chem, unfortunately. :(

igotin: i don't know if that's a question for me or someone else, but i'm taking chem6a. i was told 6ah people do more work for nothing by several friends. besides, i already bought the textbooks so hopefully i won't be forced to take 6ah...

lindzeeo: yeah you can still take the class, but you won't receive credit for it. I think the grade you get in chem also won't count towards your GPA (but if you got a 5 on the AP test, you should probably get an A anyway)

ucsdhopeful: I thought withholding AP scores is considered "falsification of information" by ucsd. I don't know though, maybe I'm wrong...

ucsdhopeful:

man i'm so jealous...ap chem was pure torture for me, and i'm not sure it's going to be any different in college.

ucsdhopeful, how do you know your textbooks already? i'm taking the chem 6abc series too.

if you go to the schedule of classes and go to chem, click on i think the book? icon, and it'll tell you. i think it's called chemical principles by atkins or something

my brother told me you can petition to have the credits to be removed or something like that, so you can take the courses for credit.

I'll look into this further.

sorry for bringing a topic back from the dead, but my registrar told me that AP classes do count towards med school when i told her that med school wouldn't accept them and would make one retake them...confused

I just used the school's site to configure how many credits I have through AP's and I came up to about 50. Since they require 180 to graduate does this mean I am already done with a full year and can use these to graduate int 3 years? Or is it like I am exempt to a higher level in some classes?

I am a human biology major in Marshall and am looking to graduate 3 years pre-med, will this be near impossible?

i think it's important to find out whether your AP's will even count for med school first...they may count for credit, but Med school may make you take the class over, or not? anyone know if AP's count for med school? for example, using AP chem to get out of chem 6a or something?
