Prep Advice

I'm 22 years old and I live in O'ahu Hawai'i. I've been in the Navy for over three years. I have three years left in the Navy and then I plan on probably going to college. I came into the military straight from high school, so I don't have any kind of degree either. I have two major paths that I'm considering pursuing: Med field (med school) or Engineering field (Biomed). I really like math and science even though I'm not the best at it. In the Navy I work as a linguist. I'm a translator for seven languages. I also can use my TA (tuition assistance) while I'm in the Navy and I have my GI bill when I get out.
What I'm doing now to prepare for my future is through self-study, learning all the maths (Pre-Cal, Cal I,II,III) and sciences (Physics, Org Chem, Biology, Thermodynamics etc.) I think I'll need when I apply for college. As well as continuing to keep my language skills in tact.
My question to you all is, after knowing a bit about me and what I would like to do when I get out, do you think I'm taking the right steps to achieve my future goals? (when you consider what I'm doing now to prepare for my future plans) What are some recommendations? advice? criticism? thoughts? suggestions? etc. Any help is greatly appreciated!! :-)

P.S. - I pose this question because after browsing through a slew of posts on this site, it seems like you guys are extremely knowledgeable about the college process and such. So, I hope this post doesn't seem too strange. Thanks!

kman, you sound very much on track.

You might be a step ahead, though - are your SATs and such already out of the way? If not, you might want to go ahead and concentrate on those.

no I haven't taken ANY Sat's or Act yet. I know that I need to take care of these, it's just that when I do take them I really would like to do well. That's why I'm focusing a lot of the maths and sciences. I have a bit of test fright, you know. I'm also trying to prep for the MCAT as well now.

Well, the MCAT is something like four years after the SAT. You'll have plenty of time to worry about that later. It takes somewhere between two and four months to study for if you have a solid background going in.

Focus on the SATs and such for now. The sciences don't show up except on the SAT II's, and any given SAT II doesn't necessarily need to be taken (though you will need to take some, those generally aren't specified except the math one).
