My son has been studying from our copy of 10 Real SAT's (the old book) but asked me to get him a book specific for the new test.

Obviously there aren't previous tests of the new SATs to be compiled into a book. Kaplan, Sparknotes, Barron's, etc, aren't privy to the new questions (at least I wouldn't think so).

Are there any prep books that are actually worth buying? It seems like any test questions they would contain would just be a "guess" as to what the new questions will be like. And yes, I realize that many of the sections will be similar to the old test, and for those our old book is fine for studying.

DD got a book called "The Official SAT" Study Guide for the New SAT. It is billed as the successor to the 10 Real SATs. Published by the College Board. ISBN 0-87447-718-2. DD got it in a huge box of "stuff" that was sent to her by Kaplan as part of her SAT prep course. It has 8 practice tests in it.

I second the College Board's own "Official SAT" Study Guide for the New SAT. It is based on actual questions the College Board has developed for the tests. I looked at the other books but this one was pretty detailed. And, you get a discount if you decide to use the College Board's special prep site that grades the tests and essays for you. It is also the book that my daughter's math tutor recommends and the one being used in the test prep class she is taking.

Don't know if this is true, but I was told to buy the SAT-2 Writing book, as they will not be available any more, but much of the material will match up with the new writing segment of the new SAT
