Prep for Prep

I have a few questions about the whole application process…
When should i start requesting information about the school, and is there a certain timeline i should follow about when to start applying, visit the schools, study for the ssat’s etc. ?
Should i contact the school about any questions, and should i contact the atheltic department about LAX or would that seem to desperate?
Also i would be applying for 10th grade. Is it hard to adjust and is it imposible to make friends?
Thanks
:)

Quennie, apply as a repeat 9th grader…

Somnusc, That’s a bizarre interview experience. I think you did the right thing to not apply there. Don’t the schools match the interviewer athlete with a candidate athlete etc.? Matching an athlete with a geek will be an interesting interview experience, I suppose.

If you aren’t sure if you want to go, put in real effort anyways because you might end up wanting to go :)

do your essays at least a few days before the deadline

apply to a mix of highly selective and less selective schools

RELAX!

remember schools that are highly selective are selective for a reason- you won’t get in everywhere. and if you get in to a lot (all but one) of your schools and get wait listed at one remember- LOVE THE SCHOOL THAT LOVES YOU!

SOMNUSC- WAS IT EXETER!!?!?!?!?! CUZ THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!

is it easier being a repeat 9th grader than an incoming sophmore

So repeating is common? my only problem is that i would be 2 years older than most 9th graders. There is a law in my state saying if i was born after a certain date i couldnt get into kindergarten when i turned five i have to wait another whole year. So i am already 11 months to a year older and if i repeated i would be almost 2 years older! and i dont think my parents would be thrilled with repeating… any more info on repeating?

I have the same complex as queenie…people keep saying its not a big deal, but I’d feel awkward being so much older than the majority my other classmates

i wouldn’t be that much older- i have a spring birthday. so i think i’d be fine. i still don’t really like ppl younger than me that much tough  and i do like 2014…well i’ll cross that bridge when i come to it

I didnt even consider that…I love being class of 2014, I am in that mindset, if I change it to 2015, it would be a difficult adjustment…
But I heard that Choate is really open to new sophmores

hmm i will deff look into choate! Do you have any schools in mind right now polodolly? I have about 15 schools that i am looking into but i havent narowed it down yet…

My list:
GROTON
CHOATE**
LAWRENCEVILLE*
LOOMIS
TAFT*
thats the gist of it

polo: you should apply to some safeties or a mix of selectivity. I have a feeling these coming years are going to be harder than usual to get in.

The only reason that I am applying to these ones is because
I am fine with my local HS
But my parents and I have discussed safety schools, what would you consider
And I am nervous too, the acceptance rates seem to be dropping = [[[

maybe NMH, williston, suffield, schools w/ higher admission rates but that are still really good. NOT Wilbraham & Monson

I’ll keep that in mind…W+M=NO WAY

glad to know you got the drill on WMA the first time around. >} it shows character lol

Queenie: what are your choices

I am currently looking into Holderness, Deerfield, Middlesex, Loomis Chaffe , webb, Darlington , Brenue, Berkshire , Mercersburg , Kent , Westminister , And concord academy. But i am open to any more sugestions. I also have no idea if i would be qualified for any of these although i am a good student… ohh well we shall see next year

why is everyone applying to concord this year?
