Prep for Prep

I test very well but I’m not so great at actually working :p. going to be a shock next year.

I’m good at working just not at getting to work lol :stuck_out_tongue: I’m an ‘eh’ test taker- I see too many right answers on my school tests to trust tests again lol

I overanalyse basic school tests but I rock at achievement tests in the vein of SSAT and entrance exams. when i actually work I’m fine I’m just lazy.

same here :stuck_out_tongue: - great minds think alike, eh lol ;)

Did you practice for the interview or just tried to be yourself? How can the same person that is great at interviewing, have a great interview at one school and not at another school?

Atleast for me I just didn’t become as engaged in the St Paul’s interview as I was with the other schools I think it was partly that I never really wanted to attend there but also the lack of information (viewbook etc.) that was very mediocre. This lead me to respond to their questions rather quickly not elaborating and asking new questions as I did with all the other schools.

I highly recommend trying to be yourself (I even got credit for being so sincere) as the admissions officer can see who practiced and who didn’t. But I will tell you this with a warning as I’m can easily tink on my feet and I’m never having a hard time becoming engaged in a conversation. But also most people who interact with me like me so if you are not at all like me maybe u should practice. I don’t know u as a person so it’s hard for me to determine wheter or not u should practice since it’s personal qualities that will dtermine your success.

So would you say that the interview is fairly casual, because I assume that they will probably ask the classic questions like “describe yourself” etc. Also what was the hardest interview question that you have been asked

Yes, interviews are very casual. They want to make you feel comfortable so that you don’t feel overly pressured and so that you give thoughtful responses.

The hardest question would probably be…(they’re all basically the same) what are your greatest strengths/weaknesses? b/c you don’t want to sound cocky or like you woudln’t be good for the school.

hmmmm okay.Thanks for the info

ECs / Hooks (one of the few things that set up apart)

Recommendations / Interview (shows that you are a smart / nice person)

Grades / SSAT (shows that you can handle the workload)

I did excellent in 2 and 3 but because I didn’t have a good #1, I got rejected.

Thank you all for your excellent advice/insights.

I didn’t prep for interviews apart from a very quick CC search on interview questions and then briefly pondering my answers.

Hi Blue, Do you happen to have the CC questions link? It seems to be time consuming to search among the many threads.

Not on me. Just go to the main page click ‘search this forum’ and then type in interview questions or whatever.

WOW! I just found like 6 pages worth of great interview advice, Thanks BR1

Hey Blue how did you study for the SSAT because this time I want to do it right lol :)

how do you study for math? lol especially a math test which you know nothing about? o.O maybe if i did that i’d have a better score lol

rad - sit next to me and I’ll do your math section if you do my verbal and reading

hahah deal  the person proctoring my test was gone the whole time basically lol HBU?

the first time - I sat in the opposite corner of the room from proctor, younger girl proctor, about 30 kids

second time - sat in a library, old mean proctor, about 10 kids
