prep school interview

ideas for prep school interviews for student and parents. Taft is our first tour and interview

Recommend that you do a search/scan of posts from the past month or so. Many many thoughts out there (some of them conflicting!).

Be open to PMs from various parents who may have already interviewed or have a kid at one of the schools on list. I’ve had great e-dialogs with parents in the same boat.

Some quick thoughts for your student: When in doubt, jacket and tie/knee-length skirt and blouse. Find that college board book on college interviews/visits for the types of questions AO might ask. Have your child “practice” a sample interview with parent or adult friend of family. Make sure you and child have gone through viewbook/website so that you can speak to topics/ask questions that aren’t superficial. Student should be excited/passionate about school and his/her own personal interests (besides video games or pop culture). Don’t dis current school too much (you’ll look like a whiner).

For parents…don’t be an overly aggressive advocate for your child (see thread on "the parent interview). Don’t stress your kid out too much before the interview. Don’t assume that a friendly AO means your kid is getting in.

We’re off to one of the Mid-Atlantics tomorrow…
